Just wondering what you guys think are the best holidays place's in the west to bring the kids for a week durbing the summer ( not this summer  )

I'm talking about place you go with nice little towns and nice beaches to laze away summer days

For example the likes of Kerry (Dingle, Dneems so on ) Galways, Mayo , West Cork,

Where would you guys recommend to people,

Enniscrone. Fabulous beach for walking, swimming and surfing. Pier for SUP and pier jumping. A waterworld type place (haven't been there as my kids are older) and then you've Ballina nearby for a soft play place and cinema and Belleek Woods. Enniscrone town isnt great but the beach and proximity to Ballina compensates.

Oops, just read nice towns and beaches....in that case: Connemara. Spoilt for choice with amazing beaches and small villages for pub grub (Roundstone, Cleggan, Ballyconneely) and of course mountains and scenery and Clifden for shopping and cinema (for those rare wet days)

    Inishbofin.

No 'towns' but several good spots for food. Great beaches. Peace and tranquillity, and best of all, no phone signal!

It's heaven if you get the sun too.

I should say towns aren't a must as long as there is one close enough to get your bits in if needed ,

Strandhill in Sligo has everything you're looking for. Fabulous surfing, lovely walks, cycling and great places to eat. Loads to see and do in the surrounding areas as well.

What we do, (two adults and two kids) is do a big weekly grocery shop in Aldi in Clifden on the way down. There is a shop on the island but it's a portacabin so not very big but does have all the essentials. There's a few good eateries on the island plus if you do any fishing, you'll catch enough in the first hour or two to feed you for the week, usually Mackerel and Pollock but the odd Cod too. You leave your car on the mainland btw. You can hire bicycles on the island (or bring your own).

If you'd like any more info feel free to ask.

Yes, it's perfectly safe. As you drive into Cleggan village there's a field on the left that's a car park. It's about €20 for the week. The ferry is passenger only. The crossing takes about 30 mins.

What you do is, drive to Cleggan and drive right to the end of the pier where the ferry picks you up. Drop off the kids and the other half and all your gear. Then drive to the car park, if there's no one there just leave the car, they'll get you on the way back. Then make your way back to the pier, it's a two min walk. As you are walking back you'll pass a little grocery store. This is where you get your ferry tickets or you can buy them online .
