Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

And trouncing poor old Brive - with no Olding, but Scholes at full back.

Leinster will need to take them seriously in Europe - they're a decent enough team.

    Table after round 4: https://www.bbc.com/sport/rugby-union/top-14/table

Lyon OU first and Bordeaux-Begles second, both remaining unbeaten after 4 games.

Decent game between Toulon (2t) and Racing (4t) yesterday saw Toulon scrape home 32-29. Zebo played at 13.

Brive (with Olding at 10) have just mashed Toulon 39 - 17 to take themselves off the bottom of the Top 14 table.

    Olding wasn't in the squad.

You're replying to a post from last week. Olding started the Toulon game but went off after 15 mins

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 702 ✭✭✭Portsalon

After 6 rounds of Top 14, Lyon are the only unbeaten team and are streaking away at the top of the league.
It's amusing to see Toulouse, Racing, Stade Francais, and La Rochelle in the bottom 5. And they'll be missing their international players for the next two rounds as well!

I may be eating my words in seven months' time, but I genuinely believe that this may be the season that Stade Francais get relegated.

Nope, he's right, olding didn't play against Toulon. He was injured

For the record, he played the first 14 minutes before going off injured.

Zebo with a bit of a mare in the 27 all draw at home against agen

Stade Francais are in big relegation trouble. They are currently eight points off safety and four points off the relegation/promotion playoff place. Their next games are Montpellier away and Toulouse at home.

Looks like Zebo went off injured earlier, not sure how serious

They've pulled themselves up by their bootlaces. Win against La Rochelle today (by just one point), and they have 24 points and have Pau and Agen below them in the table (Pau also on 24 points, but worse points difference). Bayonne are on 25 and Castres on 27, so Stade are back in the mix.

I understand Kolbe was playing 10 today for Toulouse - was it as bat**** mental as I am presuming it was??

He kicked a touchline conversion, so at least on that front, not so mental.

Edit: Here are his stats for the game. Toulouse lost 30-27.

He was grand. Wasn't hugely involved in terms of phase play. They mixed things up for clearing kicks with others stepping in at 10 several times.

Bezy going off injured relatively early didn't help him.

News coming from France that the French government are going to ban all sporting events (even behind closed doors) until at least August. So that's the end of this seasons Top14. And the Champions Cup.

EDIT The ban actually runs until September.

Surely that means the current season cannot be completed and will have to be abandoned?

In normal times the French professional leagues start before the end of August.

Yup. The T14 had already stated they would not be conducting playoffs and their sole intention was to complete the regular season pending government instruction. That in itself had pretty much ensured the Champions Cup was done as those 9 rounds would take priority over the CC fixtures.

It will be interesting to see if they just take their final league positions as qualification for next year's Champions Cup. T14 only have 6 teams who qualify automatically....Toulouse were in 7th when the league finished.

This also begs the question as to when clubs will be allowed to start pre-season training. Typically does that normally require at least 6 weeks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,821 ✭✭✭✭Eod100

Wonder is best thing in all competitions to void season and try to return in September if possible?

I wonder will there be any relegation. If not Stade must be counting their lucky stars.

Will be fascinating to see what happens to the Stades....SF who will be relegated if the places stand and ST who won't make the Champions Cup for the first time in their history if the places stand (in 7th spot when season called off).

No relegation this year in the top 14.

If they are just forgetting about the whole season, would they be just letting the same teams as qualified for the 2019/20 season go in to the Champions Cup for 2020/21?

Béziers reportedly being taken over by UAE investors, apparently big money about to be pumped into the club and they're being linked with the likes of Benjamin Falls, Dan Biggar and Beauden Barrett.

they have been linked with everyone and their mother.

who they ACTUALLY sign will be a completely different story.

id imagine it will irstly be 'twilight of career' journeymen to get them out of the ProD2... then we can have fun

Toulouse down to 13. 2 red cards in Clermont. Tekori elbow
Richie Arnold only on a few minutes as a sub got a red card for a supposed shoulder to head contact in a tackle.
Joe Tekori Toulouse lock red card v Clermont. Elbow to Clermonts Fritz Lee.
    Clermont lead 23-12

I counted 18 French players in Toulon's 23 against La Rochelle. They've really gone away from the Galacticos days of the Boudjellal era. Eben Etzebeth is really the only big name overseas player in their squad. I won't count Sergio Parisse as a big name anymore!

Woeful stuff. Completely missed the opportunity to box-kick the ball away on 17 seconds. This is why Dupont will never be considered one of the greats.

    With 13 men as well!

Noel Reid, on his Agen debut been red carded for a high tackle so Agen to play the final 7 minutes with 14
    It's 30-23 to Pau

Kurtley Beale red carded too for Racing tonight. Will be a doubt for their trip to Clermont in the QF and, subsequently, a potential SF against Leinster or Saracens.

Harsh red card. Yellow would have sufficed.

Reid's was probably more worthy of a red.
