Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Mine arrived today too, very happy with it. I had Spotify going while making the dinner and was able to use the broadcast function to tell the missus to come downstairs when it was ready.

    Paid for itself already so!

OP here. Mine arrived too. Knew about broadcast before, but it's nice to have it called out and at the touch of a button. "Call room" is an interesting one. Will have to try that out.

Seriously considering getting another, though I'll have run out of rooms to put them in. Google home mini is in the shed now. Thinking of replacing the Google home in the living room but no more rooms to move it to. Need another house

Got one for the parents a few months ago
They find it really handy for playing radio stations and no more twisting the dial on various old radios to switch stations as it just requires a Hey Google command

However the best thing is the photo frame

We have a shared album that all the family add photos to so now the parents get to see some amazing photos of grandkids and all sorts while we are all in lockdown and socially distant

It’s a real pick me up

Folks I'm trying to create a live album for the hub, (which is due to be delivered today)

I'm not seeing any option to automatically add photos though.

    Am I doing something wrong?

    IMG-20210303-100402.jpg

I've only started labelling faces this morning (about 5am) so I'm wondering does it take a while to kick in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,365 ✭✭✭✭McMurphy

Edit, I think I might have to wait until I've the hub connected right?

We are about to start building a house and haven’t had time yet to think about “fun” stuff like this ........
We currently have an Alexa show and Alexa dot.use them mainly for spotify .
Got a few Tapo smart plugs at Xmas which were really handy for Xmas decorations but not a lot else . Have two of them on lamps now and the rest out away until next Xmas .

I’m wondering should I get this and start moving towards integrating everything onto google home?
We won’t be moving into house for around 18 months though so warranty will be well expired and there may well be a newer model by then ......

If you're buying now, to store it for 18 months, it's not a bargain.

Same here. Love mine so far even of it's main job is as a smart clock loving the retro clock face. The home control integration is good. Spotify works great.

Do third party doorbells work with this or only the Google doorbell?

Yeah they are great for the price. Very handy with Google Duo as well to make calls to mobile devices.

Is there a way to connect google home devices together so they output the same audio when playing things like Spotify?

Yeah you can set up what's called a 'speaker group' in the google home app.

Yep works now. It thought I was in Netherlands first time (work laptop), which apparently makes it full price.

Downside is the increased price had justified me not buying it, now I'm not sure again...
    Cheers!

Not happy at all with this and will be returning. Touchscreen is unresponsive. Photo background not available. Routines not available. Just a glorified clock at the moment.

Not natively... Though if you've a home assistant setup and a third party camera integrated you can cast your dashboard to the hub and get notifications that way. But not ability to use the doorbell mic.

This is mainly the reason I've picked up another one of these for the office as a home dashboard.

Have you tried a factory reset? Press and hold both volume buttons together for 10 seconds; a message should appear on the screen telling you about the reset - just keep holding the buttons down until it restarts.

If it's still unresponsive after that, then return it. But that's probably the first thing support would tell you to do!

I have one these and think they are fantastic - especially now at the op price .

I have mine in the kitchen. One of the main things I use mine for is casting from the RTE app. It plays perfectly on the screen.

Could even replace a telly in a kitchen if you just use the basic RTE channels.

Routines not available? I just tried "tell me about my day" and it worked. Now I play news at the end of mine and it didn't play the news. I had to ask it specifically to do it then it worked.

    Forgot about casting?!

The screen is fantastic quality I must say ... also it looks like you can connect Bluetooth headphones to it also. Check out audio settings in the Google Home app.

Anything I have bought from google , gets here lightening quick . Their delevery is excellent . Amazon could take a page out of their book :pac:

Anyone figured out how to create a live photo album yet with Google photos?

I've watched numerous YouTube videos, but the option isn't there on my app no matter what I do.

You've been lucky. Looking back over my last 5 orders there's been a glitch in 4 of them. And don't bother contacting "support" to help.

In any case, fair dues to DHL, they got it back on track and it got from Leipzig to Waterford in 12 hours.

Philips Hue are probsbly the most well known, other cheaper options such as TP Link, search on amazon for smart bulbs and anything compatible with google home will work.

Can someone please convince me that I don't need this?!! I already have a Google Home (BA thread), Lenovo Smart Clock (BA thread), two Google Minis in use, two more minis in the press (BA thread) yet to be unboxed. But it would work nicely with my Nest doorbell, also purchased due to a BA thread...

It worth it for the screen , make it way more useful especially if you already have a nest doorbell.

Hate to say it but if you have a nest doorbell, you should get one at this price.

I gave various google devices, the doorbell, 2 of these and a hub max and am wondering where I could use a third lol

I've had a nest thermostat in years gone by. Hated it. Too slow to recognise it was cold, too slow to recognise it was warm enough. Home/away had me at home while in the pub, and the smart learning algorithm decided Baltic cold was the order of the day for the morning time. Swapped it out for a sonof basic, a Xiaomi temperature sensor and some home assistant automation.

I thought I'd get away with it since I don't have a wired doorbell, but nest got to covered for that. Just €60 for a power supply

I think you just create an album in Google photos first. Call it Google nest album or something and then you set this in the settings on the nest. Be aware however that it downloads the image each time it appears so you can burn through a bit of data if that is San issue for you

Yes, i had loads of photos in google photos but hub couldn’t see them. When i setup a new album in google photos and put some photos in it worked a treat

Got mine yesterday! After much fiddling through the menu got a Jam Heavy Metal Bluetooth speaker connected! I haven’t enjoyed a piece of tech as much as this ever! I won’t show my age by revealing the music I got it to play on Spotify Premium but spent a very pleasant evening with a few beers listening to music I hadn’t heard for years!

Which power supply did you get? I see there's one on the US Google Store, but I couldn't find a Google-approved one for our sockets (though I'm sure there are third-party solutions that work fine).

Don't think so, I tried this when I initially got it, and it (the hub) directed me to use the app to set it up, but again, there's no "automatically add photos" option there. I actually think the love album feature might only be available in the USA.

Pity, I was planning on sending my parents a hub set up with a live album that they could keep in their sitting room, and I could update it regularly with photos of us and the kids (they live on the other end of the island to us, and we haven't seen them since Feb2020 due to lockdowns and restrictions)

On another note though, just be very very careful with the facial recognition feature.

If like me, you have some friends that send you the occasional WhatsApp that might have let's say "photos of an erotic nature"....

Use your imagination on that one.

Nobody in their right mind would give Google Photos access to their WhatsApp messages.
