Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hard to call now.

I can see Curran losing out. Kenny and Higgins look good but gogarty will get a big green vote if he can stay in.

Casserly will pick up the gogarty vote also

FG will probably get a seat but which candidate im not sure. Can Gino get enough transfers to get past curran? Im not sure curran will transfer well

Curran has picked up 520 transfers to around 70 each from Higgins and Casserly

    Gino gaining fast on Higgins

Yeah that was a ff candidate though, so was expected

    Kenny now in 4th.

Although Higgins *should* be safe after transfers

Poor Gino nearly gave up this morning but he's very much back in it the mix

Yep, but the big transfers from fg still to come

Does counting stop gor night at a certain point?

I assume Gogarty and Kavanagh will have more Gino transfers though? Might still be close call

Would expect gogarty to go to vicki.
    Very slow at the counting.

Still think Kenny and higgins will get in. Gogarty could nag fifth. Think Curran is in real trouble

Curran should transfer well from Kavanagh I think but it's a toss up really, I think he'll scrape over with Higgins, Gino is transfer friendly with Casserly as will Higgins be, so might be close yet but still leaning Curran and Higgins at this point

Not many between VC and PG. Gogarty may pass her with the green transfers

All over for the night now.

So did they complete the 6th count or not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,190 ✭✭✭✭IvySlayer

Count 6 is completed with Curran and Gino ahead of Casserly and Higgins

    John Curran - 5704
    Gino - 5115
    Higgins - 4879
    Casserly - 3835
    Gogarthy - 3784

Would love if FG didn't get any seats, a clear message how incompetent they have been.

Gogarty's transfers will help Casserly and FG will get one in. Unfortunately. I'm very sorry for Gino but I don't think he'll make it.

I still think Kenny can overtake Curran, and I don't think Casserly will catch Higgins.

It'll be very tight in the end.

Hold on - what about Kavanagh?

Kavanagh has just been eliminated. His transfers are up next

I think Curran will get a good chunk of Kavanagh's transfers. It may also help Gogarty pass Casserly, but that will just ensure Higgins comes in on her elimination.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,190 ✭✭✭✭Pherekydes

I missed Kavanagh when reckoning the transfers. Gogarty should leapfrog Casserly, which will eliminate her. Her transfers won't elect Higgins, so the next elimination will be one of Curran, Kenny or Gogarty. If Kenny can overtake Curran on Kavanagh's or Casserly's transfers then Curran could lose out.

    Then, Curran benefits
    who?
    . :D

Casserly gone, think Gogarty will go next, gino in third so looks safe. Higgins and Curran in a fight off

You would expect Casserly to transfer heavily to Higgins

Depends on where VC transfers go. Gogarty may get more from VC than higgins. Gogarty not dead tet

Good point. I forgot that both are Lucan based. Might play a role in the transfer pattern

Curran 152 votes ahead of Kenny for that last seat

Gogarty’s 5,000+ votes to be distributed

Bit of a shock that, I’d imagine this time last week Curran was possibly in line for a senior government post

Cant say I’m a fan of Curran either TBF

Well, I'm not sorry for Curran, but I'm very sorry Higgins got in. I'm surprised and delighted for Gino.

What you mean is ‘the people don’t think the same as me’

Because O Brion and Kenny are excellent public representatives. Ward has been decent at local level and Higgins is a new comer. Let’s see what she’s like now

and I say that as someone who didn’t give any of them their first preference

    I do.not.like.Higgins.

Didn't Curran survive the cull of 2011?

    If so, LOL>

No lost it in 2011. Won in back in the last election.

Curran in Dublin Mid West since the constituency was created

    2002 - topped poll
    2007 - topped poll
    2011 - 6th - unelected
    2016 - 3rd - elected
    2020 - 3rd - unelected

Bit of a roller coaster there. He's only 59 so fully expect him to make another run come next election

Somebody posted it earlier in the thread. It was based on tallies I think but they're very accurate.

Now the government is formed and 3/4 TDs elected wanted nothing to do with it, do we think these representatives are a benefit to the area?

A better way of asking that question is what can members of a government do for an area and what examples can you give of it working in the past

The last 10 years we got alot of sport facilities out of it. Fitzgerald pushed for alot of it with the Councillors from various parties or independents.

There is f*** all going there in the next five years. I guess I suppose it was worth it to give the "establishment" a bloody nose.

A posh careerist champagne socialist without a clue, a dope who tried to scam a homeless house and a stoner. Great choices.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,962 ✭✭✭r93kaey5p2izun

I didn't vote for SF or FG. I gave Gino a preference, not #1. I do not feel Higgins will bring any more benefit to the constituency, directly or indirectly, than the others. Nor did Fitzgerald before her.

I did not feel confidence in any candidates based on combination of party and individual ability, and found voting difficult this time. Overall I think we have exceptionally weak GE candidates in the constituency, apart from Eoin O'Broin. Some very good local reps, but I don't personally see them performing effectively in the Dail either if elected. I have low expectations of the current lot, but not really much more confidence that those who lost out would be any better, even the ones I voted for.
