Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This is not not good news.

Benteke looks like a bad pull somewhere

    Bollox

Would rather take him off today instead of risking a longer injury

Jesus that was very poor decision making from Kozak for the first chance. I mean that was bread and butter goal making.

    Id get that myself easily.

Luckily he created the kozak moment second time round.

Tonev just looks like he wants to shoot everything, his first touch is always to take it onto his left

    Outstanding, sir

Guzan and the strikers look great (and Luna going forward). Everything else is a bit of a worry. Really need someone able to hold onto it in midfield and not give it away so cheaply.

Tonev is a passenger, get Sylla on.

Is this an awful match or is it just me?

BBC text saying Benteke sitting in dugout smiling now but with crutches beside him. So no real hints as to injury there

Looked like Gabby picked up a knock too!

Tonev is very annoying, did he even get one on target?

    yes, just the one mind.

    Needed that win for sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 838 ✭✭✭rebelomar

That game and the manner is which we struggled to hold on against a poor Norwich side points to another struggle this season.

Our passing was awful and rushed. No composure. Trying to break everytime we win back the ball. Need to mix it up and keep the bloody ball for more than 15 seconds.

We are still far too naive im afraid

3 points happy out and first clean sheet in the league in 27 games :D

Over in the fantasy match thread someone's posted that Lambert has sais Benteke back next week, to be rested midweek. Looking for source now.

Edit. Up on Villatalk too, link to Belgian Twitter account with Lambert quoted. Everyone there thinks it's legit.

He hurt his hip flexor, he should be fine next week

Glad we got the clean sheet but we were very poor in the second half.

Wiemann got alot of slating on VT but he was good in the first half and was involved in all our best chances. But he faded as the game went on. I think his all action fast hustling game means he's only good for about 70 or 80 minutes.

Hopefully Tonev and Helinius can improve enough to rotate with him.

Hard to think that a clean sheet and a win could happen and I still thought we were quite poor, Guzan was the only reason we did both. Tonev is a player that looks to need loads of protection in midfield, we don't have the quality to offer that either. Brave decision to drop Lowton though, thought for a while he was sort of Lamberts pet, but fair play to him for doing it.

Might be the last clean sheet the team has for a while if the defending remains like that, ridiculous how much space Hooper had for that chance. Incredible save by Guzan though.

It'll be interesting to see what sort of team we play against Spurs. Having an extra days rest compared to Spurs two should be an advantage.

I remember watcging the game last season with a spurs fan and i was embarresed by how good we made tgem look. In saying that we are much improved

Resting Big Ben is an absolute must, even if he's fit. Wouldn't mind seeing Helenius, Tonev and Kozak start up front, if we're going 4-3-3/4-5-1, with maybe Sylla getting a run in midfield aswell. Maybe give Bennett a go at LB?

I think CB will be out but I would expect the only change from our first 11 would be Sylla in for probably KEA - Westwood and Lowton were rested for this game. Think PL is really pushing to win it this year after admitting it was his mistakes that cost us last year.

Was that the reason given for resting those two? By accounts Bacuna had a great game and many people reckon Lowton got dropped.

Westwood had a slight knock and was decided not to risk in order to be ok for Norwich.

Would be surprised if Lowton was dropped as he didn't perform badly - PL did say a while back that Lowton had played nearly every minute last season due to lack of cover and when cover was available he would prioritise games for him and others when possible.

I don't think I have recovered enough to see anymore of those 'shoot on sight' shots into row Z.

Lowton was 'rested' but I wouldn't be surprised if that really meant dropped. I doubt very much he'd be rested in a league game to be fresh for a League Cup game.

Yeah Lowton was dropped for not being great so far this season. No harm in it, shows him we've got capable backup if he doesn't perform again
