Clean wall where climbing plant used to be for painting

I am currently painting the outside of my house. One wall used to have a climbing plant growing against it and still has loads of the gripping hairs or whatever they are called still there.

Has anyone any recommendations for removing them before painting as it's going to leave a very messy bumpy finish otherwise?

Half thinking of a burner like used on a patio to get rid of weeds followed by a steel brush?

    Anyone any recommendations?

How long is it since you removed the climbing plant?

Its gone a couple of years now.
Blasted it this morning with the weed burner and scrubbed afterwards with a wire brush, scorched the old paintwork but not bothered as it will be repainted anyhow. Job done!
