Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi all. Im looking to get night vision binoculars for my husband as a present. I know nothing about them what is good or not. He justs wants for hunting foxes and for around our farm to check on stock etc..Ive been looking them up and they range so much in price. I dont understand the technical terms and descriptions Im just hoping someone would be able to recommend a good pair. Can anyone recommend a pair/brand?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Bel16,

Firstly I would just like to ask you to proceed with caution. Night vision devices are highly technical and without proper knowledge you could get fleeced.

There are two common types of night vision in use by hunters. The first involves a unit that sends an infrared light beam that can only be detected by the canera on the unit. Here is an example of the unit I have.
    https://www.optics-trade.eu/en/pard-nv019-digital-night-vision-monocular.html?___from_store=int

The second type of night vision is a thermal imager. This detects heat sources. They are much more expensive but easier to pick out heat sources for a great distance.

    https://www.optics-trade.eu/en/pulsar-axion-key-xm30-thermal-imaging-monocular.html

Both of these units are excellent and I would recommend the pulsar axion key xm30 if you have the budget for it. If not the pard NV 019 is a good unit I use myself.

I think pulsar would have some of the best. It’s what the npws use. https://www.pulsar-nv.com/glo/products/33/thermal-imaging-binoculars/

What's your budget?? Let's start there and see what is available!

Thank you very much. My budget would be 350-400. I think he would prefer the binoculars that he could strap to his head rather than the monocular. So he would be handsfree.

Ok well that rules out thermal so leaves u with digital night vision device. Have a look at "optics warehouse" there in the uk and would post to Rep .
You can scroll trough the options and maybe find some thing in your price range! I'm not sure if u will get binoculars but a good Monocular will have a neck strap and is as convenient at binoculars. I'd suggest the pard019 for starters and is well in your budget .
I'm sure members will post suggestions that stay in your budget.

This website is pretty good for explaining and understanding more about the technical functions.
