Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I see no scenario in which it would be beneficial to the 26.

If Eire is staying in the EU, then it may as well do so as 26. There is no gain with adding Scotland, or even Wales (there are rumblings they may leave England to it alone also, but cant see it going anywhere), to a United Celtica.

If NI sticks in the UK, then it would be utterly bananas to join the Scots.

The only realistic solutions, assuming Brexit goes ahead, are, in order of desireaility :

    1) NI joins Eire, and the EU
    2) NI joins the EU as an independent 6. The EU will foot the bill collectively.
    3) Eire triggers Breunion and joins the existing UK without any of the other regions leaving it.

1 is still too politically charged, even if economic good sense, to happen for a couple of generations.

2 is a possibility they must consider, but would need strong safeguards to reassure Unionists that it wasnt just a stepping stone to 1. And sufficient reassurance is probably not possible for a few generations yet, as per 1.

3 is the action in the hands of Eire. If the Brexit is stark, with serious collateral damage to Eire's economic and social position, it is a means of reducing the impact, and the best of a bad lot at worst, or, a chance to launch a bright future as an integral part again of the British Isles, mending old fences, and acknowledging the effective one people that all on these islands are at the back of it all, having a major capital city we can be proud of, and restoring the monarchy.

Joining the Scots fits nowhere in those realistic potential scenarios.

Sure we already have Celtic, what'd we want with the rest of it?

No. But Northern Ireland should form a new independent state with Scotland. They're far more aligned with the Scots. And leave us alone.

Personally I wouldn't know which of the two would be worse to be associated with.

Two Doors Down could do an Irish special.

Aye we should and also take England as far south as Cheshire and Yorkshire with it. Be a powerful nation to counteract the soft southern English types who seem intent on driving the world demented

For one world cup id love to see an all ireland, scottish and welsh team.

Might actually win the thing. Eh probably not.

To differentiate themselves from the British and Irish Lions they could be called The Celtic Tigers.

Perhaps it's inevitable. Wasn't the north protestantised to break the link between Irish and scottish Celts?

Or, with the creation of a devolved English Parliament, based in Birmingham or somewhere, join a five state Federal Kingdom of Britain ?
