Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If you are a total newbie to cycling then go to your local bike shop and get an entry level road or hybrid or mtb. You need not spend mega bucks on a first bike for commuting. Get a good lock or two. Make sure the place you will leave the bike during the day is secure.

Beg or borrow some sort of a bike and try the route, first ,
it'll be well worth a favour from someone .

This way you'll have a better idea of what you don't want for when you go to a bike shop.

    You don't want a mtb.

There's a nice safe route from t allaght to balls bridge

Good dedicated off road cycle way to templeogue over and under the m 50

and then a nice river route almost all the way to donnybrook and into balls bridge by the dodder.

If you're in tallaght, you've got cyclesuperstore on your doorstep. They might have a few suggestions for you. Also if you want a really good bike, spend as much of the €1000 on the bike itself and buy the helmet, lights and lock from your own money if you're able to, you can get these things cheaper online.

Here's the thread about getting gear online, you obvioulsy choose how much of this list you will or wont need (scroll down to the post by seamus).

I've not done that commute but the Dublin Cycling Campaign are starting a Bike Buddies scheme to help people starting out. Neat idea.
