Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've run ten mini marathons , way more than you

    3 X 42 > 10 X 10

They're in for a surprise then. The usual post race routine is to go straight to Dundrum Town Centre to proudly display your medal and sweat.

I don't like talking about my 10 inch waist.

I lived 5km from school as a kid, when I had no bus fare or bike, i did 10km there and back with about 15kg of books in my bag

I've never understood why people object to it being called a mini marathon.

"But a marathon is 26 miles"

Yeah, the clue is in the word 'mini'.

I've run many 100 meters. Are they pico marathons?

Sure that's nothing. When I was a young fella I ran 40 miles up and back to school. No fancy kilometers in those days. And a hot spud in my pocket with 15 feet of snow in my bare feet. Happier times. And no sex or gays back then either. The youth of today are soft with their jPhones and Instabooks.

It really irritates me when someone calls a 10k run/walk a “marathon”
I’m training to beat the half a high jump record.

congrats, the majority of women are not as strong as the majority of men that's a given , but any man who runs a marathon and gets beaten to the finish by woman needs to look in the mirror

    What were the other 68%?:D

They found an easier "marathon" to do. Only takes a fraction of the time so they can spend more time afterward on important stuff...

You could probably call that a mini ultra marathon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,048 ✭✭✭Bunny Colvin

I often wondered what distance these 'marathons' were! I looked up the website that was hositing one in my area and it never specified. 10k?! As the Scottish would say, Get Tae Fucck :D

My commute involves c7km of cycling daily and a short walk to trains. So in effect I complete an Ironman every day.

You'd need to get wet first to claim that so at least a shower if not a bath before hand and you're away. Although a quick rinse of the hands may qualify in the scheme of things :D

I agree. We need to increase women's participation in sport but how is calling a 10k a marathon going to achieve that goal?

New York did the first. Again, women's participation in running was tiny, so efforts were made to encourage greater participation. Fred Lebow doesnt get a mention in the wikipedia article, but he was the driving force behind promoting the NYC marathon, which helped create the marathon boom. I think he was behind promoting this race.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Mini_10K

Clearly, something worked, and lots of women are involved in running now.
Interestingly, they don't call the NYC one a "mini-marathon" anymore.

Jokes aside, there's a lot of negativity in this thread though. If this race encourages participation, its a good thing.

Men mostly run this in drag for charity. Probably a few to show their mates how "mad" they are.

As an aside, perhaps all the recent debate on sex/gender could see this kind of dress up fun as being on the wrong side of political correctness.

Pure luxury that! When I were a lad I had to run uphill both ways. A hot spud in your pocket? Lucky b*****d! Didn't even have trousers to have a pocket in, never mind a hot spud.
