Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    The first thing you need to establish is, are they 'Relevant Persons' as defined in Residential Tenancies and Valuation Act 2020

    <SNIP>its a rent room scheme op ? Will they leave if the rent is put up? Hoe much do you like them and enjoy sharing with them? Finding decent folk tomshare with that you can get on with is key in this - and not skangers or pracites. Speak with your lodgers and tell them for the mortgage tombe financially viable you need to make either lifestyle changes or get new (family members) lodgers in - or increase the rent to cover the mortgage. So no sky, cleaner or inclusive bills or they agree to an increase to whatever is comparable in your area (320?). You might find that by just charging notmally for the extras they either leave or you will have made the significant difference up. e40 or so all inclusive rent a week is for a song - riduculously low!!! !

    A few things here.

    Everyone is not a landlord subsidising a stranger. Feel free to do this its very rewarding.

    18.9% of the population rent. As you can see this is alot less than half the population. From this figure you would be assuming everyone would have a problem paying the market price. This doesn't make any sense.

    The open market price is what people are will to pay so in essence they wouldn't be homeless. The housing would be full 100% of the time as price is dictated by market forces and not attitude of fence sitters.

    It is up to the government and the tax payer to pay for accomodation for people that cannot afford to pay the private rental market price

    Absolute rubbish, every house that’s sold in the country is sold for the max possible price that people are willing to pay. Why would rent be any different?

    OP, your tenants won't be going anywhere if the new rent is still below market rent.

    I personally think the rent is extremely low. I would say a minimum of €80 per week and all bills split between the occupants of the house. Splitting bills will make it less likely they will waste electricity and other utilities.

    Agreed but Still extraordinarily low - bit thats assuming its nice and to a clean and good habitble standard. As for the clown that thinks the working poor have to subsidise anyone and everyone who thinks they have a right to hoard theor dole or salary and get someone else to pay the majority of their rent - communist china is that way. Pay your way or move back in with your friends or family.
