Paying teenager for good grades

I was wondering how common this is. I have cousins in the US who are in high school (equivalent of 3rd year). They have regular exams at the end of the month and if they get 5 A's or more, they get paid €50 by the school. I've also heard of parents paying teens to get good grades if the school doesn't.

Do you think it's a good idea? Some say it is because it motivates them to work hard for money, a useful skill to learn.

Others say it's wrong because teens are already being supported by their parents with housing, food, clothing, etc.. and they should just go out and get a job.

    What do you think?
