She should drop the Lottie. I presume Charlotte is her real name, much more pleasant sounding.

Good old RTE ,still carries more passengers than CIE.
His old media friends think they owe his family a living with our money.
Cant wait until his son gets Pat Kennys slot and Bonnie produces it.

She is not my cup of tea, but was the show any good?

Sure doesn't Gerrys brother work in RTE ? I've heard her spots with Colm Colm on his show and she wasn't that bad but her own show I don't know.i think her "full" name is Charlotte as far as I can remember.

Just copied and pasted her name into Google now.

"Lottie Ryan is an Irish TV presenter, radio reporter, and dancer.

She is a daughter of the deceased broadcaster Gerry Ryan. She studied media and television in college for five years........"

I know loads of people who got jobs (or at least a chance) because somebody knows their father, mother, brother or sister etc. in all walks of life.

Construction, media, hospitality, catering, office, factory, garages and industry sectors.

It happens all the time. Everywhere.

Name dj one who has landed a breakfast slot on RTE because of their father etc and with her inexperience.

We do not owe the ryans a living out of public funds,we do not need to give them extra pension entitlements and pay offs because their money grabbing father killed himself through drugs particularly through a broadcaster that is losing obscene amounts of money year after year.

If there is one industry that can attempt to justify engaging in nepotism, its the entertainment industry, and broadcasting on 2FM is no exception.

For a medium that relies heavily on ratings, the popularity of presenters is of prime importance. The late Gerry Ryan was an exceptionally popular presenter commanding huge audiences. He wasn't my cup of tea and I never heard of 'Lottie' until I read this thread but it seems entirely reasonable to expect her to inherit much of her fathers listenership.

I'm not defending RTÉ's decision to give Lottie her own show but I can understand why they did so. She perpetuates the Gerry Ryan brand in a way that no one else ever can and that is worth a plus in ratings.

Its not unique to RTÉ. It was and remains fairly rife in the BBC also.

Zoe Ball springs to mind immediately. Other examples include Dan Snow, Rebecca Wilcox, Justin Webb and the Dimblebys.

I'm sorry but I cant believe that RTE are attempting to perpetuate the Ryan brand beyond his death, I think its purely a case of abject laziness on RTE's part that they are resorting to using someone from within their ranks to fill rather than attempt to find outside talent.

I do have an issue comparing Lottie Ryan to the Dimblebys, a dynasty of possibly the finest tv journalists british tv has ever had. Dan Snow has a first class honours degree in History so is a specialist iin his field, Justin webb started in the BBC 30 years ago as a trainee and worked his way up through the ranks, as did Zoe ball, working as a researcher and runner for years before graduating to becoming a tv presenter.

The nepotism in this instance grates because its another illustration that RTE is plagued with nepotism to the exclusion of outsiders. In the above examples each person distinguished themselves on merit and bloddy hard work, this is not the case with RTE.

RTE reminds me of north korea, impossible to get into and virtually nobody ever leaves.

As I said, I'm not defending the decision to give Ryan's daughter her own show but I can understand it on commercial grounds.

I agree that RTÉ should foster new talent but the fact is, Gerry Ryan was a household name and his daughter carries that name on. If she can carry some of his popularity with her she will obviously generate more listeners than an unknown presenter regardless of talent.

I'm not questioning the merits or otherwise of those I mentioned in the BBC. I'm simply illustrating that nepotism isn't unique to RTÉ.

Finally, in fairness to Lottie Ryan, she appears to have the relevant qualifications and experience necessary for the job.

    From Wiki -
Lottie Ryan is an Irish TV presenter, radio reporter, and dancer.[1]
She is a daughter of the deceased broadcaster Gerry Ryan. She studied media and television in college for five years before moving to New York where she did 16-hour shifts with CBS on The Good Wife.[1][2] Several radio stations, including Radio Nova 100FM, have requested her to go on air as a DJ..........

She is probably more qualified for a career in broadcasting than her late father was.

She's a little silly idiot.Other hard working people deserve that slot, not nepotilistic offspring.
    Also, her show is merde.

Isn't she just filling in for Louise Mcsharry, who in turn is filling in for Ryan Tubridy? Noel Kelly strikes again. He didn't get RTE to let one of his clients take over from Tubridy, as he usually does, but he manages to get someone on his books to replace Tubridy's replacement instead.

As for nepotism, RTE is the national broadcaster, as such it should be held to higher standards. In fact, an equal opportunities policy is a requirement by law for all such organisation these days. Here is RTE's one...

RTÉ is an equal opportunities employer. We endeavour to handle all relationships with staff, and potential staff, with understanding, courtesy and respect, recognising the individuality and dignity of each person.
Our success depends on people. We recognise that we are a community of individuals with our own backgrounds and beliefs. Everyone working in RTÉ brings his or her own distinctive experiences, skills and talents to the Organisation. We value the uniqueness of individuals and embrace their different perspectives and experiences, recognising that this is what enhances the way we do business.
We endeavour to create an environment, representative of and responsive to different cultures and groups, where everyone has an equal chance to realise their full potential.
We, both as an employer and broadcaster, promote equality in valuing the contribution of all people. As an employer, we recognise that encouragement of diversity and provision of equality of opportunity are essential to the efficiency and effectiveness of our work and to good relations among staff. We recognise that our workforce should reflect the diversity of our society.
In implementing a diversity programme we work to ensure best practice in work/personal life balance. We acknowledge the growing social concern of staff to achieve a balance between paid work and the demands of personal life. We implement a range of practices that help people to combine and manage their working lives with responsibilities and interests outside the workplace.

Is giving permanent gigs to the likes of Lottie Ryan, Abie Philbin Bowman...etc really giving "everyone an equal chance to realise their full potential"? I don't think so.

RTE didnt work Gerry to death. He was a drug addict plain and simple and killed himself by snorting drugs up his nose.

Gerry was "qualified" by huge popularity. Inexplicable and unfortunate, but undeniably huge. Seeing no evidence of the same in his offspring's case.
