What direction should these taps turn?
Both the same direction, ie; clockwise = close / Anticlockwise = open.
Or should they turn in opposite directions to each other?

It depends if they are quarter turn valves or not.

    Yes, quarter turn,
    Ceramic cartridges.
the cold tap is standard ; clockwise =close,
but the hot is reversed ; clockwise= open.

    Thats how they should be.

If you use your left hand to operate the hot tap and the right for the cold, it feels proper again!

    Yes ,
it appears that's the design alright, but it just feels wrong.
A monobloc tap on bathroom basin, again a 1/4 turn design,
    has both taps clockwise closing.
When I put the taps in a few years ago I thought the cartridge was assembled
wrong, but no ,there is only one way to assemble it, and the hot and cold cartridges are opposites.
I assumed I had cartridges that were meant for lever type taps.
Anyway got used to it over time ,until I got a drip from the hot tap.
The cartridges come as a pair, so now I'm deciding whether to replace the
faulty hot cartridge with a cold cartridge ( so they're both the same)
or continue with a ciotógy hot tap.

I'd make them both the same, clockwise for off. The way they are now would drive me nuts. And I'm left handed!!

    Ok, cartridges came today,
I've switched the hot, so both are now the same.
All I've got to do now is re-educate my brain.( might be some time)
I was just wondering if anyone else found the set-up awkward.
