Aluminum vs PVC

    Folks
    quick one. I was getting an aluminum lift and slid (4.5m). Supplier fell through.


    I have a quote for a PVC replacement. Whats the difference? (I get PVC is plastic and aluminum is well...) But is there anything else other than feel? What do I need to be wary of here?

    Frame will be much chunkier.
    Have you done the math on the weight, could be 200 kg so have you access

    Aluminium/aluclad:
    - slimmer frames with straight edges
    - wider choice of colours
    - looks sleeker
    - much larger doors/openings are possible

    PVC
    - cheaper.

    There's plenty of access (no need for lift) which is good.


    In terms of "clunkiness" its a 4500x210 door, I'm guessing there wont be a significant difference (at least not one I'll notice in a year or so). Please reassure me I'm right :o

    I think at standard 210 height it will be ok. When shopping myself, I was told that uPVC isn’t possible with larger (taller) sizes, in my case my slider is 2.4m tall.

    50mm on frame thickness makes a huge difference in appearance.
