Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

    Hope this isn't too silly a question to ask but haven't seen an answer on the sticky's or other threads.

    I'm looking for an Android app which will allow myself and my son to play some long distance games where each move prompts a notification on the others phone. We won't be playing together at the same time 'live' so to speak, more like old fashioned correspondence cheese where there will possibly be days between moves.

    We tried "Chess with friends" but it keeps corrupting the games.

    Happy to pay to support a developer rather than free / ad supported.

    Lichess has a correspondence chess mode, not sure about notifications.

    Yeah, I don't think it does.

    Similarly with gameknot - it'll certainly email you when it's your move, or if you've the site open in your browser, it'll ping at you, but don't think it has an app as such. Gameknot specialises in correspondence chess (doesn't really offer blitz) and I find it very good.

    Chess.com does have an app and may be worth checking out to see if it gives correspondence notifications; I've never used the site but it's one of the biggest going, so it can't be that bad.

    Edit - actually, lichess does have an app. Another big site - though a bit too much of a social media feel to it for my liking - so it's worth a try. Lichess would focus on shorter games - down to 15 seconds for all moves - and I don't know how active its correspondence section is. But there's probably enough there to get some decent games

    chess.com has "Daily games" where you can have games with at least 1 move in 14 days. It also pushes notification once the other guy makes his move. Just add each other as Friends and off you challenge the other one ;)

    Thanks all, the Chess.com app and browser based service is working a treat.


    BTW, athlone573 I'm a fellow Athlone man and proud to say I was in St Mel's Park for the AC Milan match in '75.

    Man that sounds old :-(

    Lichess. You get notifications when someone has moved in a correspondence game

    Just logged on this morning to see a new "Install app" button on Gameknot this morning, so for anyone else stumbling into this thread, I think Gameknot is an option now.

    Off-topic, but I'm curious... How does lichess have a social media feel to it?



    Lichess and chess.com both have apps and correspondence options with notification pings.

    The activity feed and the following of players

    "X played 2 moves in a correspondence game" or "x followed y and 2 other players" or that kind of stuff

    Gameknot (where I mostly play) doesn't have any of that (though you can quietly friend a player for easy tracking)

    Fair enough - I've never seen the correspondence one, and the "followed/friended" thing seems minimally invasive. I was wondering if there was some aspect of it I had missed!

    No, nothing major alright. But it's the first thing you see on a player's profile and I just find it a bit of an ugly setup.
