Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi everyone
We received planning permission to put in a driveway this week. Standard driveway with kerb dishing required. There is a large tree on the grass verge outside our house which isnt affected however one of the planning conditions is:

'5. Prior to the commencement of development on site, a Bond or bank draft to the value of €1,500 shall be lodged with Dublin City Council as a security for the protection of the existing street tree to be retained. This bond will be released twelve months after the completion of all site works once it has been ascertained that the tree has been preserved in its prior condition, has suffered no damage as a result of development, and the developer has complied with the requirements of the Planning Authority in relation to tree protection. Reason: In the interest of tree protection and the proper planning and sustainable development of the area, and compliance with the Dublin City Tree Strategy 2016 and Policy GI28 .'

Does anyone know if 1500 is the cost regardless of the size of the 'development'?
Why do we only get it back 12 months after completion of the work?
What happens if DCC damage it when they are dishing the kerb?
What happens if the public damage it? It backs onto our neighbours entrance and the grass verge beside it is shared with our neighbour on the other side.

Any info would be very much appreciated if anyone has been in a similar situation. I want to challege this in some way with dcc as I think its way too much money for something we cant 100% control.
Ita a gorgeous tree and we totally think its worth protecting.

    Many thanks

I believe the charge is dependent on the number of trees to be preserved/protected.

The tree may be damaged during works with the damage not manifesting itself immediately.

Regarding damage by third parties, unless it can be explicitly proven I'd imagine it's a case of hard luck, otherwise every developer who didn't want to retain trees marked for retention would find 'members of the public' damaging said trees.

If you dig through the roots during the works it can take some time for the tree to show this damage. It will also be more likely to fall over or die, so try not to damage the roots. Might be necessary to dig around them by hand rather than through them with a JCB.
