I'm playing RE1 at the moment and at the bit where the dude was bit by the snake. So I run back to the room get the serum and then saved. When I reloaded the game some days later and went back the dude was dead, wtf? I mean I went straight back (other than having saved the game and engaged in real life for a few days)

You need to be really quick, as in minutes.
Normally I do this in one move without saving.

Do you have a backup save?

Fred, nope, just nope :) Resi 3 was good but I only remember the nemesis, Jill's blue toob top and a Latin guy helping you. 2 was way more epic. My real argument is which is better RE 1 or 2. I think 2 is the better GAME but RE 1 was such a ****ing classic, much bigger whif of nostalgia off it.

Gimli, I think you had 5 minutes to save him. You failed. You have to start a new game and post a pic of when you actually save him this time.

Was RE3 the Nemesis one? The fact I have to ask the question makes it a nope from me.

I liked Nemesis - played it recently on the Vita or something. got as far as the first Nemesis fight and couldn't believe how hard it was. I chose not to run away, well that was a huge mistake. Used all my ammo and health and he was still charging me. Old games seem so much harder now.

There was a dodge mechanic that gave you the upperhand. It is tricky but the pistol parts you get off him make a nice gun. Its hard to say which is better for me. They were both great.

I wimped out and restarted on super easy, as a result I have no back up save. I don't think he gives you anything essential. Normal mode was stressing me out, the original was nowhere near as hard. Bullet sponge Zombies running at you, deadly dogs. What got me to restart was the thoughts of facing a hunter with a pistol.

RE2 for me is the most memorable, and was the game everyone owned and was talking about back in the PS1 days.

When is the last time you played RE3? I'd argue give it another go. It honestly holds up so well.
Once I finish Claire B I'm moving straight into it prior to Remake releasing this month.

There is an argument to be made that RE3 is better than RE2...

    Any takers?

I loved RE3 because Nemesis would show up anywhere and early on when you had no ammo, it was a button mash to try and turn and run away from him in sheer terror.

RE2 was the first RE I bought so its my first love of the series, I went back and got RE1 and was initally under whelmed after playing RE2, it wasnt until I went back to it recently that I ended up loving RE1.

I do have a soft spot for RE3 though.

I think you get a shotgun off him if you save him, or do you get that when he dies, I cant remember. :o

    Correct; later on though during
Shark Tank Section where he gets eaten while saving you

I enjoyed 3 more than 2 but I think that was because I played and cleared 3 first.

My uncle let me play 2 when I was fairly young and the zombies chasing me at the start and then bursting into the gun shop window frightened the life out of me. Was a few years after that I went back to it :pac:

Well you get nothing from him if he dies. You'd think she'd have the cop on to search the body. He definitely gives you something and it could have been the shotgun but I have that already. I saved him on normal.

Well you never know, we might get a Resident 3 REmake which I'd be all over! I wonder if they'd prefer to concentrate on remakes or resident Evil 8 whatever that night look like.

If you save him, then you get a special shotgun off him later in the game.

    Edit: woops, missed Fred's post.

    There are two shotguns.

His one is the assault shotgun. (Better range same power as Remington)

Feck I'm going to have to restart again.

    RE 8 is happening.

Based on Blue Umbrella. (You need to have played Not a Hero DLC on RE7)

As much as I liked Resi 7, I never played any dlc. Will aim to get the gold edition of it every goes really cheap. Also it's my number 1 reason to buy the ps vr.

I've played about 45mins of RE7 on the free PS4 demo, is it worth it to pick it up, even if you dont have PS VR?

It was bloody freaky alright but I never got around to buying it at the time.

Yupp, I'd definitely recommend it especially as I've seen the base game can be gotten for 18 quid. Not enough for me to buy a vr headset but always tempts me.

The demo you played would have been a variation of the game, location pops up full game is more actiony but just as tense.

For me, RE7 is not RE. It again moved away from its roots of third person survival horror. I watched a play through on youtube but never intended on buying it myself. It just doesn't have the feel of an RE game. It felt to me like an Outlast kind of game.

Yes it's excellent, it vastly improves on the original in terms of gameplay. It's quite an old game itself but is worth picking up. They gave it away on PS plus I think a year or so ago.

I played the demo of RE7 on PS4 as well. It scared the bejesus out of me. It's only the first hour or so and except for the end there was no real jump scares. It was very atmospheric, really dragged you in. I remember looking for something in a room and suddenly someone walked down the hall, past the door. Couldn't cope with several hours of that let alone in VR.

Tbf, it uses very similar mechanics to the original trilogy.

Key collecting, locked doors, interconnected maps, save rooms, storage boxes.

I don't know how anyone has the patience to play in VR though. I found the tension relentless at times. It was hard to play for more than 2 hours though.
Glad I finished it though but **** me it's frightening at times.

Ya, I picked up RE1 last year, a month before it went free on PSN :o

It was only a few quid but was definitely worth it.

I tried to Platinum it so went through about 4 or 5 play throughs including a speed run game and enjoyed every minute of it, never got the platinum though. :o

It depends though. Have you played the old style before.
Some of the puzzles / backtracking can be a turn off for the newer generation.

I liked it, its the way RE was intended to be played which is why they made countless more games based around this style.

Got my pre-order in this morning. Green Man Gaming have a 26% off promo in the run up to release. Got the Deluxe version for €51. Happy enough with that.

I bought Origins, probably from Amazon. It has Zero which I never played and the remake which I wanted. Shortly after buying it the remake was given away for free on PS plus. I'm playing the digital copy. Played a bit of Zero but haven't gone back to it. It's got a real strange mechanic where you can just leave stuff (ammo/plants etc) lying on the floor. Being the snob that I am this offended me for some reason.

Can you d/l from the PS store?

I can but it is more expensive than getting origins, so may as well get both

Zero isnt terrible but its not good either. I would skip it unless you have nothing else to play. Poxy leeches.

Leeches can eat a fat one, horrible things altogether.

For me the main issue with zero is that the inventory management is atrocious.

The removal of the storage box, having to drop and pickup items constantly and the crippling fact that you were forever swapping weapon and items between one character and another.

So you get 30 mins, and that's it for the demo - does it self destruct once the 30 mins are through? :P

It might force you to reinstall it again to play over, considering it’s the full game it’s giving you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,403 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

Im sure someone will exploit the 30 min timer somehow.

Has anyone ever speedrun it in 30 mins? Is it possible?

I wouldn’t have thought so but there’s some seriously crazy ****ers out there speedrunning all sorts of ****e.

    EDIT
48.53 according to a quick google search.

I'll download the demo to show support but don't think I'll play it, I want the full thing and don't want the break of a few weeks and then start again. I don't want to risk because I'm on a timer either. I read the clock stops anytime you're in the menu so at least you can view map and items carefully. I want to play this taking my time and taking in my surroundings, playing against a timer isn't going to help that.

A 1 shot 30mins demo is released on Friday but ya know what I think I will just wait at that point it’s just less than 2 weeks away I don’t wanna ruin the police station areas in a demo.

I remember after playing resi7 that the guest house area at the start was ruined by the demos to that game before release would have been better going in blind.

One thing I love about the resi games is exploring and reading the documents they are always really well done imo

It's not the full game. Its a demo with a set length. You either manage to speed run to the end of the demo or you enjoy looking around for 30 mins.

    Direct Quote from Capcom:

"Play quickly and carefully if you want to see the end of the demo, and be sure to pick up any useful items you see laying around while conserving your ammo. It may be tempting to try and defeat every zombie that stands, or crawls, in your way, but sometimes it's better to use a few bullets to make an escape route than empty a clip on a monster that refuses to stay dead."

I'm not going to bother with the demo TBH.

I want to go in as fresh as possible and a limited demo isnt going to do much for me, especially given the game drops in some 2 weeks, I'll stand tough. :o
