Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We happy with our off season business so far Chiefs fans? Watkins? Fuller? Amerson? Hitchens?

Been out of the loop the past month

How did the draft go for us?

Was ok, not flashy but decent. I posted about it on the general chat thread but ill pop it here for anyone else interested in Kc specifically

Chiefs draft: Quick bit of analysis from what I've seen/watched since and what I've heard about them

We went all defense (except a defensive player were going to convert to OG), I think we needed more of a focus on secondary but there are some pieces there as well. Each player below:

    Breeland Speaks, DE, Ole Miss
Looking like were going to play him at OLB instead of DE, Interesting as we have Tanoh trying to get into that spot from last year and likely means we are getting rid of Dee Ford after this season. Nice to have some rotation, like the player but not our biggest area of need, could be a sign that we are going to go a lot of press man on the outside and rotate rushers at OLB

    Derrick Nnadi, DT, Florida State
We needed a nose tackle, Xavier Williams is ther enow and we need line depth. From what I hear high motor kid, should fit in well. Look to be building a very young DL rotation in the coming years if picks pay off. think we also picked up Dee Liner at DT as a free agent.

    Dorian O'Daniel, LB, Clemson
I like this one a lot! Fast, fun to watch, id imagine we'll have him play a hybrid LB/S kind of role given his speed/coverage. also a great special teamer in college os can bring that immediately as well. Means we have a nice collection of LBs to disguise rushes and coverages if needed down the line.

    Armani Watts, S, Texas A&M
Add to the defensive backfield, 4 year started in college, good tackler. We lost Ron Parker in off season and berry's injury showed us how much we need depth beyond Dirty Dan. Can be incredible but reports say he can be a bit boom or bust on plays, guessing on routes etc so will need to work on that. Should be in rotation and possibly pushing to start by end of year.

    Tremon Smith, CB, Central
for me too little too late, we should have gone CB earlier. That said, interesting prospect. Small school kid, very good production there. Project as well need to see how he translates to the NFL speed and size. Could be good and if so, should push to see some playing time at the end of the year in CB3 rotation. Has some special teams experience too

    Kahlil McKenzie, DT, Tennessee
Fun times troll pick. This is Raiders GM Reggie McKenzies son. We are planning to move him to guard (as was apparently the expected approach of all the teams looking at him). Lot of work needed but guard seems to be a better fit for him. Take a punt on your final pick and steal your divisional rivals kid? Why not?

Overall I'm happy with some of the players, think we had bigger needs like a CB earlier but trust the management to know better than me on this. Feels a lot like a building draft for next year and the year after. Also, could point to a defensive scheme change/coaching change as a lot of these players are tweeners and could move from OLB to DE in a 4-3 (Speaks).
Yeah, thats all I got for now Not the most exciting but looks to be a long term plan

Also, forgot to mention in the other one, there are some interesting DB prospects in the supplemental draft, as we've got some picks acquired we might take a punt on one of them (unlikely though)

Mahomes ... what a player. Can see why Reid let Smith go to Washington now. Incredible start for the Chiefs. Tyreek Hill is a beast also!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,345 ✭✭✭conor222

Very excited by the first game there, extremely interesting playcalling and design. A lot of college type stuff and I'd say that jus the start of what we'll see this season.
Positives on the offence, a lot of contributors helped given Kelce was a non factor, Line looked decent, Hill was a monster. Defence performed better than I expected (most of the yardage was in garbage time up by 2/3 scores where we were in prevent and forcing them to cathc in the middle of the field to run clock).

    Negatives
DBs are still an issue, Maholmes seems to only throw rocket passes, not much in the way of touch balls. Poor clock management at the end of the first half.

Next week will be interesting but overall very happy with this first game :)

I was impressed with Kendall Fuller

Shout out to Butt-Kicker - Panthers must be out of their mind giving him away like that

Steelers on Sunday - is Le'Veon Bell back?

    What a team!!

What an offence. D really needs berry back asap. Mahomes isn't going to be able to produce 6TDs every week but really liking the progression the team has made this year.

Berry, Conley and Ware are all like new signings

I really think we could get rid of the hex this season

There’s not a D alive who’ll want to face Mahomes, Kelce, Hunt, Hill and Watkins.

Must've been 8-10 Chiefs fans in the Woolshed on Sunday - by far the most supported team on the night

    Bitter sweet!

I'm heading over to Arrowhead in November for first time having supported the Chiefs since 1996. I was a bit worried initially with the whole new QB situation but now...to say I'm excited would be an understatement!

Fingers firmly crossed for a good injury run between now and then.

Absolutely gutted but proud of my guys

Defense still shocking but no one can live with our O-line

If only we could sort the D out, we could dominate NFL for next 5 years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,898 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

I made it to Arrowhead for the Cardinals game and while it wasn’t a great performance it was nice to see Mahomes throw a couple of TDs to Hill.

It was freezing cold but a great atmosphere and the locals couldn’t have been nicer. The most common question on hearing my accent was “wtf are you doing in Kansas City?!” :D

Really enjoying the season overall and the Rams game was the best I’ve ever watched end-to-end. I think the secondary is too problematic to ride all the way to a Super Bowl unfortunately, and Eric Berry isn’t coming back any time soon.

Great stuff, massive game upcoming on thursday now. Hope the injuries to Hill, Ware, Watkins and the OL are not overly serious as we'll need all hands on deck for this Chargers team

Hill and Ware will be fine, I imagine Watkins will miss the remainder of the regular season and be back for P/O's - obviously why they brought in Kelvin Benjamin - we have Eric Berry back finally though :D

Ware is out from what I'm hearing, Damien Williams to be lead back with Charmander backing him up

Ware is in, as is Berry and Hill

    Work tomorrow too but YOLO

That secondary ain't winning no Super Bowl, it's horrible.

Off night for the offense but they still put up 28 points which isn't enough to cover the rubbish on the other side of the ball. Scandrick, Nelson, Murray, Parker...just dreadful. And that was the Chargers without Keenan Allen.

Scandrick is a disgrace - absolutely ****e. Bob Sutton needs to be ****ed off ASAP the old ****er - couldn't organize a piss up in a brewery

Always nice to watch the Patriots lose but it makes that slip up against the Chargers look even worse. Huge game for both the Chiefs and Seahawks in Seattle next weekend, should be a good one for the neutral.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,332 ✭✭✭Always Be Closing

So what's the P/O situation now? Who we likely to face?

The Seahawks were gonna rest players against us but that's gone tits up after they lost to the 49ers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,345 ✭✭✭conor222

If we win next week and the chargers lose we lock up the #1 seed, if we win next week and beat the raiders we are the #1 seed so its entirely in our own hands. That would mean a first round bye (no wildcard game) and home field advantage for all of our games.
If we lose one and the Chargers win their two matchups we will drop to the #5 seed and would be on the road, playing in the WC. the 5th seed is likely to be playing either the Steelers or the Ravens, whoever emerges from the AFC North.

Win out were #1, go 1-1 and the chargers go 1-1 were #1, lose one game more than the chargers and we're the 5th seed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,898 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Things just got a little bit easier thanks to the Ravens, their defense was next level.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,332 ✭✭✭Always Be Closing

We can lose today, and still win AFC by beating Oakland, right?

With chargers losing and Houston losing we need one win from last two for number 1 seed :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,898 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Fuller and Ware didn’t make it for tonight’s game, Ron Parker is a healthy scratch by the looks of it. Not a bad thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,898 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

This defense cannot make a tackle stick ffs, Seattle's yards after contact must be through the roof. Penalties after penalties after penalties yet again too.

Oakland is no gimmie next week and another one and done in the playoffs is starting to feel more real.

They’ll sit Carr, Cook and Martin.

    We’ll be fine

50 TDs and over 5000 passing yards for MVPat, can’t say I ever expected this when they moved on from Alex Smith.

    So we're playing on Saturday 12th @ 9.35pm

Fixture time wise we've gotten the best game - no work the next day and not a 1.15am kick off

5.35am Sunday morning for me, I'll set an alarm.

Haven't gotten up for years, the 3am kick offs are a killer! A playoff game at Arrowhead though...that's not to be missed.

    My man.

Just realised we lead the league in sacks.

What this tells me is, with such a sh*tty D, we need to be leading going into the final quarter, force their QB into throwing rather than hand offs, get Chris Jones and Dee Ford all over the QB.

Our Rush D is 32nd if I recall? Need the opposition QB scrambling in the pocket for us to progress with this Defense

Any Dublin based Chiefs fancy meeting up for this one on Saturday night?

Being shown at a respectable hour and no work the next day so no excuses :D

    Anyone around for this later?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,898 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Get in! What a performance by the defense and the offense still put up over 30 points despite stuttering at times. Damien Williams was excellent carrying the ball and they need to give Dee Ford every cent he wants.

The ever AFC Championship game at Arrowhead is coming right up.

Patriots it is which is both the best and the worst prospect in terms of outcome.

On the one hand, it's a chance to beat my most hated team and potentially end the careers of a few players while also reaching the Super Bowl for the first time in my life time.

On the other hand, losing to them at this stage and having to endure another Brady/Belichick Super Bowl build up doesn't bear thinking about.

There might be a few extra Chiefs fans for one week only.

    Out of interest, whose careers?
Gronk might be a retirement candidate no matter what. But Brady will be there next year, as will Edelman. They’ll be the usual movement on the roster, but an AFC title loss isn’t going to be a career ended for anyone I don’t think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,898 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

I said potentially, we'll see in the offseason. Gronk will go and I live in hope for a few more. As I said, I hate the Patriots so I'm hoping for a best case scenario come Sunday.

I can also see Brady dropping 40+ in Arrowhead and ruining my buzz though.

Gronk may go either way. But given Brady/Edelman are pretty much confirmed to be back, win or lose, I’m just interested who you (even potentially) think will have their career ended?
Again, they’ll be a normal roster turnover, the likes of Hogan and Dorsett will probably move on, but somewhere else rather than career ending.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,898 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

I had Brady, Gronk, Edelman and Belichick on my dream wish list. Mahomes retiring the lot of them at Arrowhead would be magnificent.

Obviously that's clouded by my opinion of the franchise though and three of the four will be around for a while yet unfortunately.
