Any half decent moter mechanic dealing with modern vehicles will be able to read and clear OBDII fault codes if that's all you're after, pretty sure anyone specialising in Land Rovers will have a Nanocom at least (they are only £220 if you want to DIY)

The lad's name outside Clonakilty is Don O'Donovan ,he is very sound and have all the diagnostic tools (he can code new keys etc.).He used to be the master tech at Topcar/Drive.
Paddy Buckley is sound as well, they work on new Land Rovers too.
I deal with both of them daily and can recommend them.
I can PM their contact details tomorrow if you need it.

No, since the introduction of the TD5 engine in the Defender's in 1999 they have a OBD "on-board diagnostics" socket. Range Rover's and Disco's had them a lot earlier.

Later 300tdi models have an OBD connector as far as I remember

Late 300s had an ecu for the EGR system which is best lobbed in the bin ;)

Electronics are a fact of life these days unfortunately. The last upgrade the Defender is going to get apparantly is a 2.2 Freelander engine with a DPF

I have tried a few Land Rover specialists but by far Don is the best I've come across.

His quality of service and attention to detail is excellent.

    His telephone number is 087-6726635
