Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Do undertakers keep records for any significant length of time?

    I was wondering if contacting the undertakers who buried a relative 50 years ago might yield any information on family members?

    Or the office managing the cemetery? Maybe will tell you of where death occurred, home address, others buried in plot, maybe who organised the funeral and which undertaker.

    I've found out from his burial record where he lived (house has been sold several times), and his grave, unfortunately it looks like nobody has visited or tended to it in decades and there isn't even a headstone. I know the undertakers is Jennings also from that record. I've emailed them but was wondering if anyone would know.

    I don't think they would be required by law to do it but I'd expect most funeral homes have records. Whether they'd give you anything is another matter. Each company would be a private entity so don't have a public service remit.

    I know Nichols in Dublin gave their historic records to the IGP and they're online.

    Be interesting to see what Jennings responds. If they are receptive, they may well open floodgates.

    We discovered an unknown relative in a family grave in Mount Jerome. He wasn't recorded on the headstone. We got the information from the cemetery office, absolutely brilliant resource.
