Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Longest rainbow I've seen

    There has been a rainbow here now for the last hour and still going, how long can one last?

    It's gone now but it lasted 1 hour 9 minutes.

    It depends on certain conditions. If the 850mb uppers are troughing and shifting eastwards combined with sinking Theta values there can be a negative correlation with the NAO esembles. This causes the radioactive decay of the Purple Blue and red photons of the rainbow to decay slower meaning it lasts longer.


    ....or it could just be the cloud generating the precipiation with droplets of the right size for rainbow generation was large and/or slow moving

    Lasted ages alright, long enough to noticeably shift across the sky too. It was just before 3 when I saw it the first time. Rare enough to a decent full arc one, today's was just brilliant. Not as good as the double one I saw a coupla weeks ago though, it lasted about 20 minutes and was 2 complete arcs. There's a video of my reaction to it somewhere on youtube. :pac:

    maybe it was just me but did anyone think that OP was referring to the rainbows size rather than the length of time it lasted?

    Going by the sounds associated with the video I'd say there was pot somewhere close to that rainbow :)
