Hows it going lads? Does anyone know a good automotive locksmith in the South East? I bought a bike recently that just has one (fairly shabby) key. I bought a couple of blank keys on Ebay but they need to be cut and programmed to the bike.

    Thanks!

Most locksmiths will be able to cut the key blade no problem. What bike is it? Some need a master key to get it into key registering mode.

Don't know for sure but you might be able to jump some wires to get it into key registration mode - have a search.

If its only the HISS chip its quite easily done with some wire and a resistor.
I did one recently for my Deauville and it took a couple of goes but it registered the key no problem.

Never had a problem copying a Honda key. Also, the needing a master key, for example the red Yamaha key, is just an urban legend.

I was in a similar situation last year. I used a specialist crowd (LockDoctor https://lockdoctor.ie/locations/) since they do it at the house. Not cheap at €140 but he gave me a spare programmed chip and the blade pattern as well so I could create a third copy from a branded blank off Ebay if I chose. The supplied key was a blue plastic case (I had a choice of colours!). I've been using the blue key as my main key without issue and keeping the original locked away for safety.

Lockdoctor.ie is the only job. You'll have it done right as said above.

Thanks for the replies lads I appreciate it! I'll have a go at doing it myself first and see how I get on - if I cant get any good if it I'll try Lockdoctor. Cheers

    Don't even need the resistor!

    Really?

I know some have done it without the resistor but I had one on hand and two minutes with a soldering iron didn't kill me.

Do tell: a friend of mine some years ago had to effectively scrap an FJR over the red key issue.

I have a modern Vespa and I can tell you that losing the Brown key on that is a big deal: the only guy who can fix it is in the US, and you have to send the ECU to him.

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
