A New Zealander who flew to Co Antrim to pick up a consignment of whiskey during World War II has had the trip marked on his hundredth birthday.

Frank Prosser was a trained fighter pilot stationed in the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland during the conflict.

According to the Kapiti News in his native New Zealand, supplies of whiskey were running low at the base due to the conflict and so Mr Prosser was asked to fly across to Northern Ireland to pick up some stock from the Jameson distillery.

Having made the trip, Mr Prosser and his flying partner were treated to lunch - and a few glasses of whiskey - before making the return journey under cover of darkness.

The pair received a heroes reception on their return to Scotland as their cargo was taken off the plane.

Mr Prosser was presented with a limited edition bottle of Jameson on his birthday to commerate the feat of derring-do.
