program on last night on channel 4. called space cadets. The producers chose 12 people out of 1000s of entrants. they used psych tests to pick out the most suggestible people. People who conform easily. For example they had them guess the number of rubber balls in a container. Then they showed them a sheet with lots of other 'fake' guesses which were extremly high. If a person changed their initial guess to conform to the others, they were obviously the right stuff.
They then put them through physical training, and also testing to see if anyone suffered from claustraphobia. none of the applicants knew what all this was about yet. All they knew was the signed up for a TV show and the ultimate thrill. The host then took them to an airport and said they were going to be the worlds first televised space tourists... They put them on plane and flew them around the north sea for 4 hours and landed at a converted 3 mile square ex-military base in surrey. Everything was setup to look russian. signs, equipment, clothing etc. They even flew in lots of food from russia and lots of decor. The people were convinced they ahd landed in russia to do this. Apparently the show will culminate when they will put the people into a mock up shuttle and fool them into thinking they are launched into orbit for 5 days. They made sure they chose people with no military or science nackground. no understanding of astro physic or knowledge of astronomy etc.
The plane landed in russia(surrey) and a russian commander(actor) said in broken english "welcome to russia, off the plane now!" they alls said "yes sir"... hilarious.
