Doves and Pigeons

    What is the technical difference between doves and pigeons. Are they merely different breeds of the same bird? There is the image of: Doves = good and Pigeons = bad

    As far as I know a dove is a type of pigeon so you could say they are the same. Well I think the reason why pigeons have a bad reputation is because they can carry disease. Maybe the reason why doves have a good reputation is because they are a symbol of peace? (i THINK).
    I'm not sure about this.
