Not really fair to brand all unionists in that way. Many, many unionists are moderate and modern in outlook, but they allow themselves to be politically cowed by the conservative and belligerent element of unionism.

And in doing so, left their base behind. They lose more votes in the likes of Ballyfermot than they would ever gain in Ballsbridge. Throw in the bullying claims in different constituencies leading to splits and a loss of candidates and, just as importantly election workers, and it's hard not to see why their vote has fallen away.
