Surveying equipment for measuring areas at random locations?

    Sorry closest forum I could find.

    Looking for recommendations for something more accurate than a measuring wheel for pricing road works jobs. What would you recommend in terms of something that's fairly easy to set up, accurate and can be integrated back into cad if needed. Probably have a need for some leveling work also. Don't mind spending if its a good versatile unit.

    I have fairly basic autocad skills and am fairly tech savy.

    When you say Road works jobs do you mean putting in full roads from start to finish or Just the Final tar course?

    The cost can be quite significant for a GPS unit (compared to a trundle wheel) that could integrate with CAD but would have all the functionality you need and is easy set up and portable. (your talking 1000's and closer to 10,000 end though)


    These units are easily hired out though too,

    I'd suggest talking to all of the following, get a sales rep to show you the range and what would work best. Most will also supply some training with a big purchase and back up technical assistance.

    Ask about 2nd hand units too as an older model might do all you need where as the latest model could have far in excess of what you need

    Thats great. Thanks for the info. It'll mostly be for measuring out area of completed road works jobs. Having better accuracy (than a wheel) could pay for itself very quickly. I wasn't sure if there was something in between a wheel and full blown 10k+ GPS, that may be cheaper but slightly less accurate. Leaving measures to build up then hiring may be a cheap option.
