Can you increase the width of a double glazed glass unit in a PVC frame?

The window frame in a north facing bedroom in our house is 60mm thick. The double glazed unit in it is 18mm (4-10-4). The window frames on the front of the house are 60mm thick also but they have 24mm glass units. Would it be possible to put a 24mm unit into the frame in the north facing bedroom?
