Hi! Purchasing a new build. We noticed a part of plaster from the wall beside the stairs came off, it was part of our snag, they fixed a few days ago, but it came off again today. Will speak with the foreman about this. Would this have something to do with something serious? Or is it just that they would need to replace the hole plasterboard?

Thats the skimcoat, it also looks like its coming away from the board oddly enough. Probably too dry when applied or something or maybe gone off. Would suggest they have to widen the area to fix it. The patching is probably missing more bad skim to the top.

Plasterer should be able to easily fix that though, just keep on top of the foreman

Great, thanks. So the house won’t fall on our heads then. :D

After they've replastered, they'll need to repaint - don't accept a patchy paint job, or let them tell you "it'll be grand when it dries". If they need to repaint the entire wall along the stairs, that's their problem. They may try to pressurise you or say "oh, just sign off, and we'll sort it later if needs be", but get that in writing if you're agreeing to it!

    +1

They will need to blend the finish in with a roller and probably sand/paint multiple times.

How loose is the rest of the wall? It looks like that came away very easily and hadnt bonded to the wall at all, suggesting dodgy plaster as listermint says or a dirty/dusty wall.
If it was my house Id be tapping around it to see what else falls off or sounds loose/hollow, it will just keep failing if it hasnt bonded to the wall.

Foreman has been quite helpful. Hopefully they'll get it sorted quick enough
