looking to buy a new bike wondering what are the main things people check for ? putting aside the components and bike choice, i mean more in terms of right fit for you.

    Cheers.

You should look at perhaps getting the bike fit before the bike, I know a fitter in Galway offers this service, he will recommend the type and size of bikes that would suit you. You then go back after the purchase and he will fit you for the same price

cheers for that. sounds decent, but realistically, cant see it happening. was just looking for one or two basic things that people would say are really important when figuring out if a bike is a decent fit

Slowtwitch have a few articles giving the basics on sizing with stack and reach.

It's only useful if you've got a fairly good idea of your bike position and leg/torso length etc, but perhaps take note of the long+low vs. tall+narrow brands, and try out some of each to see which suit you better.

+1 for going to a fitter first though.
