Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Garmin TdF leader *Contains possible Giro spolier*

Following today's stage in the Giro Hesjedal lies back in 33rd position more than 23 mins behind and effectively out of the GC race. Given this and the see saw results from Andrew Talansky this season is there an inevitability that Dan Martin will end up as a protected rider/leader for the TdF in July.

He looks like Garmin best option and they have few alternatives, while DMs time trialing needs to improve to be a all round GC contender he has made improvements this year and so could go to the Tour and surprise the other GC candidates as he slips under the radar of race favourites.

Maybe he's only treating the Giro as a training ride?

I doubt that as he is going to it as defending champion and he was super agressive the first couple of stages.

I think that the Capt may be correct. Hesjaydal does not have a lot of racing in his legs relative to other GC riders this year. He began the season very late.
It could be the plan all along was tontarget the tour, but as defending champion he wanted to give some respect to the Giro.

Either that or he is having a colossal loss of firm for one reason or another.
Garmin won't win the Tour, on that basis with a team that has Stetina, Talansky and Martin they are better off IMO being mercenary and targeting stages.
