Analogue Cable Frequencies

This seems to be frequently asked question, so I'm going to try and start a list of cable frequencies which hopefully people from other cable areas can add to.

This is Chorus in Limerick anyway:

***There's been just colour bars on this channel for at least 6 years. At some stage it had the audio from Sky Premiere (back when that existed).

Ch. = Band III channel letters. AFAIK there's no standard channel frequencies for hyperband in this country, and I dunno if the above correspond to any European standard.
Pinn = Channel numbers from Pinnacle PCTV Vision (crap software that came with my TV card)
Pana = Channel readings from my Panasonic TV
The "channels" on DScaler don't seem to correlate to anything

There are some encrypted channels as well, but I don't know what's on what. BBC2 and Eurosport were previously on VHF Band I until last year, allegedly moved to introduce their broadband service - does that generally use Band I? The reception on those two were shyte anyway.

The "S" channels used on a lot of TV's are based on the mainland European 7MHz channels which dont translate properly to the 8MHz channels used in Ireland and the UK.

The cable companies themselves quote the channel frequencies in Megahertz (usually rounded to the nearest whole number) which isint a bad idea except that few TV's or videos give a frequency readout in megahertz

All of this must be horrendously confusing to their less technically knowledgable customers -hell I am technically knowledgable and I find it confusing

For some reason I'm not allowed to edit my original post, but there are more channel changes in Limerick allegedly due to "necessary digital upgrade work".

Channel 6 is now on 279.25 MHz (S16 according to Chorus)
At The Races is now on 287.25MHz (S17 according to Chorus)

The channels are still currently on the old frequencies with captions noting these changes.

Isn't this kinda pointless...Chorus have already started phasing out analogue. I was at my friends house last night and he had 3 digital points where his analogue boxes used to be..When i asked why he said that chorus said that all the analogue boxes where being replaced with digital.
Not sure if this is just happening in cork because we always needed decoders..even to watch analogue.

Those frequencies for Discovery and Ch 4 unfortunately don't work here on ntl: in Bray, which I assume should be the same as Dublin in theory. The picture quality on both 48 and 56MHz isn't the best. The E4 one does work, but strangely the picture quality is worse than the other frequency of 64MHz.

Phase-out of analogue cable in Cork is much more of an issue, because ye're special

. Cork is different from every other cable system in the country because all the analogue channels are encrypted, meaning anyone watching analogue cable needs those sh1tty old GI/Jerrold boxes to see anything.

Everywhere else the basic analogue channels are totally clear, so for example anyone with some F connectors, co-ax and a ladder can steal 17 channels here with ease

. In Dublin, Limerick, Galway and elsewhere they don't have any immediate plans on phasing out analogue cable, though will probably reduce it to just the basic channels.

Yes. Band I will never be used for TV now. Will be removed everywhere. The Cable Modems can use as much as any 8MHz channel 110MHz to 862MHz (DOCSIS 3.0 up to 1GHz and multiple 8MHz channels) for downstream and any channel 1MHz to 8MHz in 5MHz to 65MHz band for upstream.

As more broadband customers are added and maybe HDTV, all the analogue channels will be gone. One Analogue channel is 45Mbps approx worth of Digital TV or Modem Download/Downstream.

Analogue on cable is doomed, doomed I tell you!

These are the only services carried on Cork Cable, although there may be a 5th channel in some parts of the city too, I think it depends on whether you're on old or new cable network wiring.

RTE 1 - Channel C04
RTE 2 - Channel C09
TV3 - Channel C07
TG4 - Channel C06

There are no other analogue TV or Radio services carried at all.
The quality of the analogue feed's dire too. It's like a very poor quality digitally sourced feed, the screen ratio's all wrong and the picture's very pixilated with terrible sound. It's certainly not an alternative to an antenna if you were going to just watch the 4 terrestrial channels.

I'm not sure how those channel numbers translate into real frequencies. It's a Sony TV.

Given that some TVs now support DVB-C, there's a possibility of carrying basic channels on cable in the clear. It'll be interesting to see if UPC follow that model or just encrypt everything.

They don't elsewhere. "proper" DVB-c TVs have a CAM or card slot. Some European & US operators support them, but Hybrid DVB/IPTV on cable and SwitchedVideo Cable will kill 3rd party solutions, only the Cable Company supplied and "provisoned" box will work.

I doubt that it's intended that DVB-c is for sale in Ireland.
