Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How did they get away with re-opening?
Is it just because they don’t serve alcohol?!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3 jm198

It’s closed until the 10th of October due to the level 3 restrictions in Dublin

I imagine they opened on the same basis as health and fitness places.

It’s a breeding ground for germs at the best of times.
Wouldn’t even think of going near the place at the moment

I see reference to this place on the covid thread

Given the circumstances Is this place still open does anyone know?

Seems a bit mad that pubs can’t open yet a public sauna is?

    How are they justifying it

Several cases of drug-resistant dysentery were previously associated with this spot.

Given where we're currently at, such a place should be shut down indefinitely.

If and when the pandemic passes, it should be allowed reopen, once it adheres to stringent controls to prevent patrons walking out of there with ailments one might associate more with a grim Dickensian flophouse.

Their website is a good place to start:

    https://www.the-boilerhouse.com/

    It says the 7th of June, Monday-Wednesday 13:00-21:00, and Thursday - Sunday: 13:00 - 23:00

So, not full hours, no steam rooms or jacuzzi.

It looks like they will have a contact tracing requirement, and masks required etc... The announcement is way down at the bottom of the page.

Has anyone been recently? Is it really quiet? Just wondering if its a waste of time and money right now. I usually went after a night out on a Friday or Saturday and it was very busy with plenty of people under 50. Was thinking of going some evening mid week. Whats the crowd like then and is there many?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,753 ✭✭✭cgcsb

Friend of mine went and said it was quiet. They are now asking people to show their vaccine certificate.

It's closing at midnight these days. Before most of the action there was between 00:00 and 06:00

I'd say you're probably better off waiting until the closing time restrictions are lifted which we don't know yet. They said at the end of August they'll announce a roadmap towards removing the remaining restrictions, hopefully the time limits will be first to go.

Went in tonight for a bit of R&R (yeah right!)

Was a nice crowd, not packed. Loved listening to one guy explaining to two lads about teh etiquette and how to approach people as they had never been

Got what I wanted myself so happy out

Is the boilerhouse still open for business. You'd think they'd shut given the Monekpox virus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,753 ✭✭✭cgcsb

What? Why? Might aswel shut because of meteor strikes

  • Registered Users Posts: 481 ✭✭mr.anonymous

They don't have to close by public health advice, but are they doing anything given that their regulars are the most at risk group for monkeypox?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,753 ✭✭✭cgcsb

Russia is the largest country and therfore the most likely to suffer meteor strikes, therfore they should close Russia. That's how logical this thinking is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,477 ✭✭✭AllForIt

You might want to have a read of this thread: https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058258244/monkeypox-virus-and-being-careful#latest

I actually didn't know it can spread by skin contact so I guess just brushing by someone with their top off could get you infected. And I'm sure there's a far higher probability of that happening than being struck by a meteor.

Is there still demand for saunas in Ireland? I thought these type of premises were closing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,645 ✭✭✭Qrt

Nah, people will always want to be a bit slutty. Grindr etc is just mental torture in comparison.

  • Registered Users Posts: 577 ✭✭✭Facthunt

I think when I was in Uni nearly 20 years ago there was “Inn on the Liffey” and another sauna in Cork but these are gone?

Do many turn up at the Boilerhouse? What does it even cost? Guess it’s a guaranteed success option then?

Liffey one is gone afaik, Covid killed it off. Cork one too probably. Boilerhouse is very expensive but that’s inflation, I think it could be €25? I’d be paying cash anyway, don’t think I’d like an underwriting knowing where I get me hole!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,123 ✭✭✭✭Gael23

    It’s €25 now.

I always find it’s really old men in there most of the time

  • Registered Users Posts: 577 ✭✭✭Facthunt

Inn on the Liffey was never much good tbh!

€25 is about the standard price. London/Edinburgh/Paris/Amsterdam/ Berlin/Milan all similar prices. Not bad for probably a 90% chance of a happy ending 😂😂😂

Boiler House is the last one in Dublin. There's the Steam works in Belfast which AFAIK is still open. There was a Greek style one in Cork that's gone and there was one in Limerick which I assume is gone. Grindr is a form of torture, hours of chat and then 'ok I'll come over but have to be quick' - don't bother. Or there's 'I'll be there in half an hour' then in half an hour 'I'm sick can't come' all this shite is bypassed by the sauna and its handy after the night out. Its clearly not as big a thing as it used to be. Some clubs now have sex on site spaces like Sweatbox, NSFW, Oink etc. And Basic Instincts has a dungeon that's pretty high quality.

Amsterdam and Germany are the places to check out! They are an eye opener for us innocent Irish folk 😂😂😂

  • Registered Users Posts: 577 ✭✭✭Facthunt

Don’t be little the sauna until you have tried them!

As mentioned previously… Grindr and the likes aren’t as rosy as they look!!!!!!

Do you go often? I think there are better setups on the continent personally!

But it’s certainly not the worst! As the original originator of the post … Hope you enjoyed the BH and any other ones you visited since!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 bazbai4

I’ve been there a few times during the year now. I found it an older crowd too (I’m a college student) but had sex each time and can’t complain. Would go there more only for the cost!

Agreed with others on Grindr, I’ve also had experience of chatting and then before the hookup the profile is deleted, it’s soul destroying in a way. Now I’ve had good hookups from it too but I’m just wary of it now a lot of the time.
