Hi Score Girl is a great immersive lesson in fighting game community history.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and would watch it again.

Let's be honest though, as an actual story (and it's a love story at it's core), its a bit generic and sh1te.

    :):)
Wow.. What an old swinging brick you have there for a heart :)

I've heard the animation quality takes a bit of a nose dive after the opening unfortunately.

Now quite Japanese anime but I'm watching a Chinese animated show on Netflix at the moment called Scissor Seven - it's hilarious! Definitely worth checking out.

:) It does to be fair. I noticed the massive undetailed hands on everyone. taught it very strange. :)

There's a movie cut of Japan Sinks coming out. I wouldn't be surprised if it got a bit of an animation polish and the episode 4(?) to 8(?) arcs
the old man in the supermarket to the cult
    were cut completely.

Haha, I'm not against Love stories, but when the two characters involved are a super dense guy and a literal mute girl, it doesn't make that part of the story super compelling to me.

    Started watching Haikyu!! on Netflix
Volleyball Anime.. I taught ... Nah this is gonna be pants.....But My 18 YO son watched it and recommended it.

Im on ep4 and TBH it is excellent. How anyone can make Volleyball so dramatic is beyond me ... but strangely it works.
    So far so good.

I have no interest in sports but there's quite a few sports anime I really like. Run with the Wind / Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru is one of my all time favourites.

I've been tempted by Haikyu a few times, but like above, I'm not into sport at all. Might give it a shot at some stage, it probably won't shock me like Food Wars, an anime you just cannot watch if there are people around (so I haven't)!

Give EP1 and 2 a watch and get back to me. DO IT!!!!!!

Just throwing it out there but God of High School may be the best anime of 2020, even pipping Tower of God. If you haven't seen it yet and fancy some over the top fight scenes with awesome anime it's a must see

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,281 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I've been keeping up with that one, it's pretty good in fairness but still early days. Think you're right though, best anime of 2020 so far.

I am liking this new trend of animes getting to the point and keeping it full of action, unlike older animes which drag things out with unnecessary stares and reactions (looking at you One Piece!).

Yeah it's full on and keeps the pace with action every episode! Cool concept with the plot

Just got this weeks one watched in Re:Zero. Another excellent episode imo. Loads of more questions and some small answers, really leaving me wanting more. Next weeks will be an eye opener I reckon!

Surprised this season didn't end there as volume 12 ended on that cloffhanger.

It was supposed to be two cours back to back starting the week after the director's cut ended but corona delays caused it to start later and it's split cours now so there might not be any cliffhanger next week.

I thought you were talking about him from the second last episode, got you now that I've watched the last one.

Answered some questions, created more. I'm really getting into this series now, think this season has been fantastic so far. I will be seeing it out just to see how it plays out anyway, even if it starts to go downhill as now I need to know!

Finished up Dragons Dogma on Netflix also. Nice art style but takes a bit of getting used to. Felt extremely rushed, could have done with extending it out over another few episodes and make it a bit more coherent. The last battle was a let down, and the ending even more so (never finished the game so don't know what happens there). Seems like it'll be a one off and won't have a second season. Not too impressed overall.

It's been a while since I played it but I think the end of the game is pretty similar until NG+ when the story changes and that might still be possible.

Ahiru no Sora is over so I think Iwakakeru is my sports anime for this season.

Looking for something to watch, I was tempted to start SWO Alicization. Realised I hadnt started it because I hadn't seen the film, Ordinal Scale. Luckily, Netflix has it so watched it last night.

The quality was amazing, and the fights were superb. Good idea too. But it was the sound that I really noticed. On the PS4 New Gold Headset, my ears were nearly blown off me. Really, really impressed with it.

The ex machina was blatantly obvious, but most SWO has cheese anyway so not too bothered about it. But definitely one off the best looking anime films I've seen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,805 ✭✭✭Evade

Ordinal Scale is weird. It's augmented reality but in the last fight people do some very superhuman moves.

    Recommendations:
    • Fire Force
    • Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (not porn, despite the title)
    • That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
    • The Rising of the Shield Hero
    • A Certain Scientific Railgun
Fire Force and Is It Wrong... are currently airing seasons two and three respectively.

Slime and Shield Hero have one finished season each and more on the way next year.

Railgun just finished it's third season. Weird caveat to this is I've only seen the third season and it's a quasi spin off of something I haven't seen at all, a Certain Magical Index. But despite all that I still enjoyed it.

    Re: Ordinal Scale
are you on about when Kirito was overpowered? If I have it right, that was the VR version of him, he woke up afterwards. If it was Yunas friend/#2 in rankings, he had some power suit in real life.
    .

I've seen Is It Wrong and Slime, didnt know the next season had started in Is It Wrong. Loved both of them, especially Slime, but Is It Wrong is close behind. Shield Hero is also amazing.

I'm not too big into the gun based ones, but I'll give Railgun a go. Fire Force i couldn't get into.

I'd have to watch it again to see if I'm misremembering.

The name is a misnomer. Railgun is the the main charater's superhero name for lack of a better term. She has electromagnetic manipulation abilities and one of the ways she uses it it to shoot coins like a railgun.

Replying to a super old post because that's how my page loaded

Food Wars is a weird one all right, I'd be into a show about cooking myself, since I'm fairly into food; BUT from just watching the first episode the food seems to be rated on a scale of how much of your clothes it explodes off, and how big an orgasm it gives you.

I'm super late to the Haikyu train. If you still haven't checked it out, I would. I don't understand it how it's so good and how I like it so much. I'm not into sports, sports anime or volleyball in any capacity; but the show is undeniably great.

Dragon's Dogma is a big old pile of poo though. I was 100% on board with an anime based on a Capcom game about killing giant monsters (they have a few), but it's just so generic and bad I had to give you. The weirdly low framerate of the 3D animation really bothered me too.

High Score girl looked smoother, and that was just a bunch of teenagers with freakishly large heads standing up or sitting down at arcade machines.

So finished up SAO: Alicization and War of the Underworld. Definite step up in quality, animation, sound and battles. Some of the battles were amazing, up there with the film. And took a darker route for these 2 arcs. "That" episode in Alicaziation came from nowhere, and while there was blood and gore (albeit light in terms of anime blood and gore), and there was a warning before that episode (and the one where it was recalled), I still didn't expect that level of adult themed writing/animation (but still not close to 'that' scene in Goblin Slayer). Compared to the first 2 seasons of SAO, it's nearly a different anime in terms of theme, but I can see it was needed to convey the feelings of the Underworld and what it would be like in it. Looking forward to the last season(s).

Started Haikyu on the recommendations above, and like above I've no interest in volleyball or 'realistic' animes, but for some reason I'm 8 episodes in and I want to see more. I think it's the interactions between the main cast is just so well written, and each character stands out on their own and even better together. I've put this off for so long, but I'm happy I've started it now. It's a slow burner, for obvious reasons, but I'm looking forward to how it progresses.

That episode earned it a bbfc 18s rating. The first half of Alicization season one is out next week on blu ray.

I can see why. Not because of the content, but when taken into consideration with the feel of the previous seasons, it definitely stood out and possibly went on a bit longer than needed, but that just added to the uncomfortableness of it. Wonder will the "Inter-International War" go back to the first couple of seasons or continue the slightly darker path of S3.

Finished "My lie in April" on Netflix.

    It's ......ehhh. Okay?

Very predictable, from the beginning right up to the end, but it has some really neat piano playing in it.

If you want to see bystanders react to a piano recital the way they do to Goku punching someone, maybe give it a look?

Also I ran out of the Haikyu that's on Netflix, and am inconsolable in it's absence.

Crunchyroll + AdBlock = Free Membership, however I ended up paying for it as it's got an amazing selection.

I'm up to 21 on Haikyu and it really is a fantastic show. Invested in it now, but it took until the first "proper" match to really get into it.

Plus it's cheap in this country, €40 for a years sub to the standard premium. Its £65 in the UK and $80 in the US.

Closest comparison should be to the UK as it has the same catalogue as here.

The fact that they also managed to get the current arc of One Piece is pretty good too. Had to watch up to that point using other less premium sites to watch them, quality was all over the place. Now, if only they could get the first 700 odd episodes too...

Yes..That why we are talking about "Crunchy Roll" above.

It is fantastic. how they squeeze the drama out of every shot is brilliantly done.
I laughed out load at many parts too.
    Loved it.

Yeah, they have the characters nailed down, brilliant to watch them all together. And as you said, don't know how they make the drama from it. I've even started watching volleyball videos on YouTube and can see where all the shots come from, etc. I have CR, but thought it was only the OVA's after the 3rd season until I googled it.

Edit: So I'm 5 episodes into S4, and the differences are quite glaring to me. Characters look slightly different, I know Coach's voice actor is different and it's really jarring as it's not that close to the original (like soft Dumbledore vs angry Dumbledore from the HP movies). I Googled and saw all the changes, lead animator and director have not returned, other roles changed. I'll stick with it, but it's a shame to see it decline (to me). Hopefully it picks up further down the line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,239 ✭✭✭UberPrinny_Baal

Bummer to hear Haikyu is gonna dip in animation quality, but at least it didn't pull a One Punch Man and dip immediately at Season 2.

The coach's original VA btw is Nendo from Saiki K. If you don't know who that is, absolutely watch the Disastrous Life of Saiki K, also on Netflix.

So up to date with Haikyu, and while it did take a drop in animation, quality and voice acting, now that it's in the tournament it's getting better again. Still taking a while to get used to some character changes, especially Suga (I think), seems like the most drastic, both visually and personality wise.

Decided to watch what was available of The Misfit of Demon King Academy. I like it. Light-hearted, funny, and different to most other animes which is made obvious from the get go. It's an academy for young-ins to train to become the next Demon King, and new guy halfbreed is there to stir things up, however he's
actually the reincarnated Demon King everyone is waiting for, but it doesn't go the way he expected.
I look forward to the rest, it's interesting at least. Looks pretty good too.

Finished up Misfit of Demon Academy. Really enjoyed it, looking forward to more if there is some. Decided to sign up to the free trial of Funimation, and got a free month too. Which is a good thing, because my god it's a terrible App and even worse on the PS4. Not loading right, having to close out and go back in again if I want to watch the next episode. CR has some issues, but it's like the golden goose compared to Funimation. It's even a pain to scroll through what's available (mainly on the PS4 App), looks like it's made in 480p, constantly crashes, won't load info, won't let me add to my queue and subsequently crashes... Terrible. I won't be allowing it to renew.

But seeing as I have it, started Deca-dence, which is like a poor mans light hearted version of Attack on Titan. Not sure if I'll continue tbh, so I started Trinity Seven instead. Kinda happy I work nights so I'm awake when everyone else is asleep, as I didn't research the show at all, and it's quite lewd (no issue with that, others might) but it's also quite funny and interesting. The most confident main character in an anime yet, and that's really what's keeping me interested so far. I've only a few episodes left in it, so will finish it out (in private).
