Magnus 8:5 Atemiev with 25 mins of the 3/1 blitz left, and 30 minutes of 1/1 bullet to finish up, so all still to play for. Magnus is clearing up in the Blitz at the moment!

Horrific blunder from a totally winning postition for Vladislav there due to time pressure 9-5 now and it looks done!

Not a great fan of these rapid/blitz events. Sooner we get back to some proper chess the better

Well you have the last 7 rounds of the Candidates Tournament to look forward to, as well as the Classical World Championship next year! Think of this as a stop gap for Covid!

SF/F #1 on tonight, at 17:00 Irish Time, Hikaru Nakamura vs. Wesley So in a rematch of their Skilling Open S/F won by So, but with longer, rapid, time controls.

To be followed by Magnus v LeGrave on Friday, and the Final on Saturday 12th Dec.

Format continues as 90 minutes of 5/1 blitz, 60 minutes of 3/1 blitz, and 30 minutes of 1/1 bullet chess, followed by 2 more bullet games of 1+1. If a match is still tied after the mini-match tiebreaker, a single armageddon game will be played: White 5+0, Black 3+0, Black gets draw odds. The player with the highest Chess.com blitz rating at the start of the armageddon chooses his color.

Current rankings per FIDE, not sure if they are the ones that apply here though!

    Rank Name Title Country Rating
    1 Nakamura, Hikaru g USA 2900
    2 Carlsen, Magnus g NOR 2886
    3 Vachier-Lagrave, Maxime g FRA 2822
    4 So, Wesley g USA 2816

    Kicking off live now:
