    Was in the SEM lab today and thought I'd share some of the images with you lot. I'll upload more later.


    These 2 are the head section and a closeup of the compound eye from a mosquito.

    These are from a heart sample analysed by TEM. The round objects are mitochondria. More SEM and TEM images to come later.

    More TEM images. Don't know what the first 3 are exactly as histology isn't my forte. The last one is muscle fibers interspersed with more mitochondria.

    The TEM maxes out at about 70,000x

    Sorry for taking such a long break. More images on the way. The first 2 are some images of hairs from the mosquito, both the rough bristly hairs and the smaller body hairs. The third is the leg joint from one of the legs of the mosquito (don't mind that the attachment says fly) with a bit of dirt on it. The 4th is probably the most interesting. It's a pollen grain which has been cut in half with a focused ion beam to reveal the internal structure. You can even see the inside of the stamen it was on.
