Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Meteorologist Jean Byrne has been awarded a prestigious weather award. The RTÉ weather forecaster, who has won something of a cult following for her fashion style, scooped the European Meteorological Society's 2011 TV Weather Forecast Trophy Award for "one of her weather broadcasts" on RTÉ TV.

    :pac:

More like 50. There is a photo of her in the met office in 1981.

She had studied medicine for a while before that
At boarding school she was studious but mischievous, and during her first degree in medicine at UCD she often ditched her serious fellow medics to party with the Arts crowd.

Jean graduated in 1989 :pac::pac:;) (22 years ago) same year she started with Met Eireann.
    Started radio Broadcasts in 1992.
    Started TV broadcasts in 1996.

That RTE guide pic must be later than 1981.

I agree she's the only one that actually gives an explanation of weather systems and her charts give a better view of the Atlantic weather machine.

I prefer Evelyn C too. I'm convinced she loves snow and extreme low temperatures but tries not to show it because of the disruption it causes.
She seems to have a glint in her eye when she describes blocking highs or Siberian blasts unlike all the others. A bit like John Kettley on the BBC, remember him?:D

also agree Evelyn far better. Way ahead of the rest. Jean really could not have got this on the basis of the content of her forecast. and her gulping delivery really leaves a lot to be desired. Sorry Jean, not a fan!
