Bolton are in a way lucky that their stadium is out of town. Its a good stadium and the land has little value. If they were back in Burnden Park they'd be screwed.

Bury will just have to start again from the non leagues. Not the worst thing in the world for the fans but the people and local businesses they owed money to have been shafted. That's where my sympathy lies. Although Gigg Lane may be worth something to somebody

local council has said that Gigg Lane won't be rezoned and has to stay as a football ground.

The existing Bury FC company is now screwed - their league share was the only real asset they had and they have massive debts. With no way of earning any income until next seasion at the earliest liquidation is probable.

Not sure what will happen with the ground, presumably the fans will start a new club but the ground owners will want payback from any team wanting to play there. On the other hand if they don't rent it to the new club, who else can use it?

The ground will just lay empty for four or five years, or maybe a local non league team might use it (for dirt cheap rent) and then the council will allow change in use at a guess. That's what happened at Nene Park (Rushden & Diamonds) and Rockingham Road (Kettering Town) anyway.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

I think Man Utd Reserves/U23s use Gigg Lane. Or did use it at some stage.

Bolton's stadium is in the Middlebrook Retail Park, one of the biggest retail parks in Europe, the land its on is probably a lot more valuable than the old Burnden Park site.

Garry Monk named the new manager of Sheffield Wednesday I give him 6 months before he is gone.

I think that's a very good appointment. He done well at Swansea until they turned into a basket case, good job at Leeds, kept another basket case of a club Birmingham from relegation.
Wednesday are a well run club he should have them firmly in the play off spots.

It'll be interesting to see how they incorporate his agent into things, or if at all. Lot of dodgy stuff it seems with him.

So the Cowley brothers have taken over at Huddersfield that is a good appointment looking forward to seeing how they get on.

They are moving up the divisions nicely.

Yeah, I hope they do well. Definitely a huge challenge. Read that Huddersfield have only won one match, in any competition, since the end of November last year! That's some decline they have to try and reverse.

Yay, Oldham sack another manager, that's 15 changes in 9 years we have gone through. Ex Stevenage manager Dino Maamria's in talks apparently....should I really care any more...:mad::mad:

Richard Keogh injured and out for the season after drink driving incident after a team bonding night out.

Two other players involved this could seriously affect Derby this season.

I was right, then to make matters worse one of the club's directors threatened to fight a fan on Twitter. Always interesting down the Blues. Performances haven't been great, so much for the attacking football that we were promised. However still midtable so not the worst, need to be beating Wigan tomorrow if we have genuine playoff hopes.

Some good games tomorrow with Leeds and West Brom, and Stoke and Huddersfield. Can't see the Stoke boss staying if they lose that one.

Birmingham put in their best/only good performance this season and deservedly get the three points. Wasn't expecting that performance after the disaster that was Wigan on Tuesday but the team were full of running and creativity. Be lucky to hold onto Jude Bellingham for too much longer, as well as some of the other young players. Hopefully can continue that type of performance after the international break.

They got off very lightly hopefully the courts will have a stronger punishment for them.

Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett: Derby pair fined six weeks' wages after drink-driving charge
Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett have been fined six weeks' wages by Derby County after the Rams pair were charged with drink-driving.

Lawrence, 25, and Bennett, 23, were arrested after a crash in the city on 24 September and are due to appear in court on 15 October.

The Championship club have also ordered the pair to serve 80 hours of community service and rehabilitation.

Derby said the fine was the maximum their contracts allowed.

The incident after a team night out that led to Wales midfielder Lawrence and striker Bennett being charged, also resulted in captain Richard Keogh being sidelined for up to 15 months with a knee injury.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49941786

So the judge gave them a 12 month suspended sentence 180 hours community service and a 2 year driving ban

The judge told them both: “You are extremely fortunate to be here today. You had been drinking and have been involved in a road traffic collision that could have led to death. You are both intelligent and talented young men who have brought shame upon yourselves, your family, your profession and your club.” Mr Taaffe said Derby fans would be “incredulous” at what they had done.

Lawrence, 25, recorded a breath test reading of 58 microgrammes per 100ml and Bennett, 23, recorded a level of 64. The legal limit is 35. The club captain, Richard Keogh, suffered a serious leg injury in the crash, involving a Range Rover Sport and a Mercedes, and could be ruled out for the rest of the season.

Earlier the court heard from a probation officer, who said that Lawrence had told her he thought he would lose his job if he were jailed. She said he also said he thought prison would “mess with his head”. A second probation officer said that Bennett was “extremely concerned about the prospect of a custodial sentence”. She said the player told her he thought he would struggle with prison and he worried about the effect it would have on his four-year-old daughter.

Prosecutor Marianne Connally earlier told the court both players were driving home at about 11.30pm following a night out at the Joiner’s Arms pub in Derby. Ms Connally said Lawrence’s vehicle went into the rear of Bennett’s car, causing some damage. She said Lawrence’s car then went across a roundabout and collided with “street furniture”

The prosecutor said a paramedic crew witnessed the crash “entirely by chance” and came to the aid of two passengers left at the scene in Lawrence’s vehicle as the defendants fled. One man was treated for facial injuries at the roadside.

Bennett left in his own car before the pair returned to the scene about 45 minutes later and were arrested by police, the prosecutor said. Lucy Whitaker, defending Bennett, said at one point in the night her client had a Jagerbomb shot bought for him that made him sick.

Ms Whitaker said her client was driving “perfectly normally” on the way home and it was a “complete shock” to him when a car went into the back of him at the Burley Hill roundabout, near Allestree. Ms Whitaker said: “He did then panic.” She said that, after he left the scene, he got a call from Lawrence asking him to pick him up from a garage and they returned to the roundabout.

Two more goals for Mitrovic tonight. He really is a class apart in that division

Breathing room at the top for West Brom and Leeds, looking good for automatic at the moment. Still think Fulham have a chance, but they need a good Christmas period to stay in touch. Hard/impossible to call the rest of the playoff, all depends on who can put a run together. Will be a few signings in January and probably a couple of managerial changes that will help swing things.

Went to Coventry v Ipswich, very entertaining game with not much quality on show, end to end stuff mostly from lost possession and mistakes. Ipswich should've been 3-0 up at half time and should've lost 4-1 in the second half.

Absolute mystery how they segregate the Birmingham derby at the ground without cutting half the city off. The visiting supporters entrance right beside the entrance to the Kop (home) stand. No wonder there has been war...

    More fun in league one

Interesting times at AFC Wimbledon, they are attracting outside investment to complete their ground but it's splitting the fanbase on their model of ownership..

Fleetwood Town owner 'threatening' the club's the future over a Labour or Conservative Government. They'd lose their licence and be out of the league if Labour got in because his company would no longer be able to fund it..

Defensive masterclass on show in the Birmingham and Leeds game. Felt like Birmingham deserved a point but can't get away with making that many defensive errors. Becoming all too common these last few weeks, lads not clearing the ball or not putting in the effort to track back or get in the position to block a shot. Definitely need some recruitment in January, particularly with the team sliding down towards the relegation places.

Good win for Leeds though, still a long way to go but themselves and West Brom are looking strong.

One of the maddest things I've ever seen on a football pitch on Soccer Special earlier. Brentford player knocks a corner out for a throw on his own side:eek:

League One is turning into a real dogfight behind Coventry on 67 who are bursting ahead of Rotherham who have slipped back in second with 62. Oxford in third on 60 through to Peterborough, Sunderland, Portsmouth and Fleetwood in seventh all on 59 points.

Ipswich and Wycombe falling away, Lambert about to be sacked.

Relegation is not so uncertain - Tranmere, Southend and Bolton are doomed.

Sibley at Derby is turning into a fine player, bit of edge to him, cracking goal yesterday...

Did anyone notice Coventry Citys jersey yesterday, its their third choice, goes back 40 years to 2Tone records and The Specials etc, lovely..
Think I'll even buy one !

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/mar/17/championship-clubs-unanimously-agree-to-try-to-complete-season
The Championship’s clubs are unanimous in the view that a means to finish the season must be found as sport reels from the impact of coronavirus.

Representatives from each of the division’s 24 clubs met via conference call on Tuesday to discuss the next steps following the suspension of the competition until 3 April. That date – as with everything at present – is subject to change given the inherent uncertainty of the pandemic

The option of playing matches behind closed doors in an attempt to get them completed has been discussed but this would have a severe impact on the finances of Championship clubs, who rely on gate money to balance the books. If the season is not finished there is a fear legal challenges could be mounted, particularly by clubs who might be denied a financially transformative promotion to the Premier League.

It is pretty much their second choice shirt now, wearing at any away games they can instead of the yellow one. Considering their home jersey is extremely popular, it has run it close.

League One and Two abandoned according to The Athletic, decision still to made about awarding points promotion/relegation etc. Looks like Northampton would end up in play off place but playoffs removed and 4th gets promoted. Shame, but understandable.

On a happier note, for me anyway, four years ago today, I'm in that photo celebrating the mega promotion. Where's wally seems apt:

They have some battle ahead sorting out second place and playoff spots in league one. Rotherham on 62 then five or six teams with different games played on 60, 59 and 58.

Would mean Coventry finish top surely with 67 and games in hand:)

A proposed solution is a weighted ppg, so if that happens I think the top 3 as stands in league 1 get promoted

Yeah play off position irrelevant, it'd go old school 3rd place. Cheltenham would end up 4th in League Two so they'd get the promotion place.

Wycombe in eighth have a game in hand and are only one point off third spot (Oxford I think). Would that not affect it?

Hopefully Wycombe don't go up, awful side who have been on the slide in form since Christmas anyway. Edit: As are Cheltenham: "you must be *this* tall to get into the team". Like a GAA side.

Just looked at the table, and a lot of teams are going to be very unhappy. Hopefully Oxford end up unhappiest though, from a purely spiteful viewpoint.

Edit: Northampton are also absolute hoofballers under Curle. Which is a shame because they have players who can play a bit, given the chance. Team will be completely different again next season, if there is a next season. I'd imagine most clubs at that level will only have players on very short, and not particularly lucrative contracts.
