Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

None of these kids were born when Gay Byrne quit the LLS

Imagine being rared in a Pat Kenny/Ryan Tubridy LLS era

    Not for me.

History and Geography should be compulsory up to junior cert so people have a breeze about life.

It's remarkable that the notion of just picking the bits you want to know about is even entertained.

My advice to anyone coming up in life is only do what you are good at, don't do waste of time subjects like foreign languages that will only be used by about 1% of people in their actual job in Ireland.

    Pourquoi?

    :pac:

Yes what I didn't like about science was very little practical experiments in the classroom to spike my interest.

    100% agree

Nobody should be leaving school without learning about our history and the world

The JC curriculum is rotten now

I think the UK model made sense when I did it for me, I always knew roughly what I wanted to do after college, I did topics in ICT at A level that I didn't get into until second year of college in computer science

    Kids doing examinations.

So she wants to do a levels? Move up north..sorted

I would have thrived on three A levels: Biology, Geography, Art

I've some friends from de UK and the lack of any knowledge of history is shocking, particularly on the subject of countries which they invaded over the years, always a few gems to bring up over a few pints :D

    I agree.
I did ICT, technology and biology (I would have done physics but the teacher I was going to have was a bollocks).
3 subjects 2 of them extremely relative to what I do now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,673 ✭✭✭✭Ol' Donie

There should be a compulsory subject called "All the sentences you are saying, only without the word "like", except for when it's actually part of the sentence."

Yes what I didn't like about science was very little practical experiments in the classroom to spike my interest.

Literally did nothing in physics. They wheeled out the van de Graaf generator once for an open night for prospective students. It's mad, looking back. Still, ended up doing it in college.

I think we put acetone in our hands to see it evaporate once as well. Heady times.

Not out of the ordinary if they do transition year and maybe stayed back a year at some stage,

I've a 17 yr old in 5th year. She'll be 18 and 10 months doing the leaving. Started at 5 and did TY.

If you mistake a New Zealander for an Australian they take it as a big insult. Similar to when someone mistakes an Irish person as English :D
