Another idea to make my house even more overcomplicated...

My washing machine is very unreliable when it comes to estimating time when it finishes. To combat that I'd like to monitor its power usage, so that I can setup some notifications through HA when the power drops to idle...

What hardware would you recommend? I have a handful of zigbee devices around already, but the laundry room is behind two solid walls from the coordinator - I guess WiFi based devices would be better.

I've my washing machine and dryer plugged into a separate smart plugs to monitor the usage on them and also as the plug is behind them and a pain in the arse to get to if I ever need to plug them out for any reason (I've a camera plugged into the same sockets). I think these are the plugs, not 100% sure sorry, I don't have them hooked up to any automatic routines but I don't think that would be that difficult to do.

I have heard people do exactly this, main thing to watch out for is that the smart plug can take the power draw. Heating elements in dryers and washing machines can be significant.

These are both 13A wifi smart plugs:

Brilliant. The first one seems to be Tuya compatible, so that is something I could easily leverage... :)
