One of you mentioned Blink - they were big around 1995 - have the commemorative callcard and cd.

Microdisney were class can't get enough of 'town to town' on my ipod.

Anyone remember 'The Kelly Family? Yes, i do admit to having the 'angel' single! Where are they now?

What about bands from across the water?

    I really liked Mansun

and rhyming with that was Hanson, i think the oldest one is married with children now. They disappeared once their voices broke.

The Kelly Family. Weren't they a load of long-haired hippies who lived on a barge in Germany? I think they were more German than Irish.

Also in the same vein but without as many people on stage was Goats Don't Shave. I went to college with one of their brothers.

Blink were touted as the next big thing at one stage even though they were ****e. They got one of their singles remixed by Soundcrowd which was some sort of Irish dance person/people.

Speaking of Irish dance, does anyone remember the 4th Dimension? They were a poor man's prodigy who hailed from Kerry.

They were mental, they had a song with accordians and a big "Woo Hoo" in the middle of it.

Also seem to remember a track of theirs called "once again"

    Great fun.

I think there was a band called Marxman maybe. I can bearly remember them, early to mid 90's. I think they were a hip hop band, unless I'm mistaking them for another band.

Ah, The Bogey Boys. Jimmy Smyth and the lads. They only released two albums, both of which are still in my collection. Their most famous song was Friday Night. Was anyone else a fan ?

Do any of you remember, Kelly Ann? She had only released two songs as far as I can recall. The well known one was called 'Do you love me boy?' It sounded very summery with kettle drums being part of the music track.

The Carter Twins ( formerly known as, Brother to Brother ) Sang the song Twelfth of Never. Were signed to EMI and were at one point managed by Louis Walsh. They did the usual publicity, gigs, guest appearances at The Point Depot, Pantomimes.

Anyone remember Tokyo Olympics, I have an album by them called 'Radio' somewhere in the attic, also can anyone remember what they were previously called?

On the subject of the band Subterrainians, didn't they play in the Underground club in Dame Street in Dublin?

JJ72 were pretty good. One great album, and 'I To Sky' was decent too. Whipping Boy's 'Heartworm' was amazing and still listen to both Kerbdog's albums too, shame, they could've been huge.

"Snow" was my favourite song ever when I was about 10.....

I think I'll go and listen to them now.

But what happened to them... Why did they not put much more out??

Really wish they'd released that 3rd album, I'd have loved to have heard it despite the record label battles.

I do. I posted the same question and I mistakenly called her Kelly Ann! Lol!

Yea and the song 'Do you love me boy'. I think she had only two songs out. Can't recall the other one. I think she was down as Kerrie Ann but then again I am so confused between, Kelly Ann, Kerry Ann or Kerrie Ann. Lol!

Lads In Tua Nua might have been crappy enough as a band (I don't remember hearing of them as a youngster) but I seen their lead singer, Leslie Dowdall play a gig last year and she was great!

And Steve Wickham's success with the Waterboys is astronomical. He is the Jimi Hendrix of the fiddle. A very down to earth fella too...

This is one that had been bugging me for years, this act were called Natural Wild and I saw them doing this song on TV, think it must have been TV Gaga. I half remembered the song title as Hot And Sexual and had been trying to Google it in recent years without success. The female vocalist was black or mixed race which was very exotic for an Irish band in the mid 80's.

never had a golden horde album but this was on a compilation album and I loved it, sounds as good today. The backing singer reminds me of Kim Deal (pixies)

TBH when you listen back, most the Irish indie acts from 80/90s that the likes of Hot Press and 2FM endlessly hyped were bland, generic crap.

Will say there was almost a frenzy among record companies to find the next U2 in the late 80's. This resulted in a lot of samey sounding Dublin guitar bands being signed and disappearing after one album or a few singles. Cactus World News being a prime example, they were hyped bigtime despite being ****e.

They were English, Manc or Liverpool if I remember correctly. Did political hip hop.

We used to go and see:

    The Memories
    Spyder Simpson
    Royal Flush
    Big Generator
    The Blades
    Rob Strong
    Davey Spillane

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

    Brilliant.

Two members, Joey Cashman and Paul McGuinness(not that one), Moved to London after that. Joey worked with the Pogues for years as tour manager and PA for Shane. He went on to manage Shane MacGowan and the Popes after that. Paul played guitar with the Popes for a few years until he was hit by a car and suffered a brain injury. He made a good recovery and still plays an odd gig in London. Last I heard Joey was living in howth.

Steve is a legend. When not touring with the Waterboys he has another band called No Crows. They play in Shoot the Crows in Sligo every Wednesday night.

Speaking of defunct bands, the bassist in that video, Eddie Lee, was a member of Those Nervous Animals and played bass on "My Friend John".

I'd totally forgotten about this band till coming across the BUS label on Discogs just today. I remember seeing them performing this song on some RTE music show, most likely Anything Goes. Seemed to just release the one single, catchy number.

Hot Press defo hype bands they know over any actual decent music. While the A&R crowd were desperate for a next U2, Hotpress did hype a lot of crap and still were last time I looked at it.
There were some decent bands never 'made it'.
Actually the Cranberries only made it from getting out of the country.

    Lir were very good.

Tension were a band I caught live a couple of times circa 95. Kind of reminiscent of Therapy.
