Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

June 2015 to June 2020; when it was written off after some scummer broke into it and destroyed the interior and wrecked the ignition.

I had the battery sitting out in the passenger footwell as well as I wasn't driving her due to Covid. Melt.

    Céard faoi?

Very sorry to hear that. Is it a total disaster or can you get it fixed up?

If I had space and the inclination I might have kept her.

But the Carina trumped her to take the underground spot I have available. I needed a starter and the power steering pump was gonna go soon enough, plus tyres come winter. Plus a few other bits and bobs that went beyond my willingness to keep it on the road as just a daily. Killed me getting rid after all this time, but sometimes you just have to. Sunrise, sunset.

Sorry to hear that BS, you were very fond of that car. Have heard of similar happening to other old cars recently too.

What’s the best way to protect about these things? I’ve a chain and padlock in my oldies, welded to the floor and wrapped around a spoke on the steering wheel when not in use. Thinking of investing in a disklok (€150 in Halfords) for the City as I’m using it more and more. Worth the investment?

Yeah, loved it and the 4EFE in it!

Well that's the thing, they never got her moving. Just wrecked it trying to get it going. I figured the battery on the footwell would have been enough of a deterrent given it added to the hassle factor.

2 other cars got broken into and attempted that same day: an 04 Corolla that was next to mine with a puncture and flat battery that had sat up since last summer and a mark 1 Rangey. None taken and nothing taken from them. Sure my boot was left open and tools out on the ground with nothing taken.

With the Carina I've decided to use a car cover on it and have the battery out. She needs new doors as it stands so damage in an attempted robbery will cause minimal disruption as she's on the long term resto list for me.

    ---

Only thing about the chain around the spoke is the potential to cut through the wheel but that's hardly likely on the street.

55-C-2. A low slung, LHD convertible of some sort. Looked like the Morgan.

SmartinMartin, did I pass you on Botanic Avenue earlier in a white 190e? I think I recall you saying you picked one up, and I know loads of your pictures are from around there! I was in the red Honda.

It's the E100 liftback, "Corolla Sprinter" in some markets. It's based on the JDM Sprinter (sister car to the Corolla, sold at different dealers) but they only got the saloon: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/37/E100_Toyota_Sprinter_1.jpg
There was also a 4-door hardtop Sprinter Marino (used to see a few around, similar to Corolla Ceres), and of course the Sprinter Trueno coupe.

The previous generation liftback was sold as a "Sprinter" in Ireland.

    Beautiful car, awful plate.

Yeh...should have the dirty red with the black letters and maybe some of them broken or hanging off...

EDIT: although in '71 or '72 maybe all they had was silver on black?

There was a thread up on AH the other day re reg plates, along the lines of "who cares where they're from and what they look like"...

    I sniggered.

That Corolla always puzzled me, passed it for years and it always looked like it was walled into the garden.

It passed me in Inchicore some time last year, other than that I don’t think I’ve ever seen it move beyond that spot
