Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Except Frankie goes to Hollywood. That song's class.

Those working in retail over the Christmas exposed to these tunes on a loop must be near needing Post-traumatic stress disorder.

There is at least one version where the roles are reversed.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpDLpz88V-I

    Another example:

I think removing the song is a pretty stupid and counter-productive move. A rudimentary reading of the whole song lyrics, (not just the "what's in this drink" line) along with consideration of the time the song was written in, should be enough for anyone with any level of critical-thinking ability to know that it's not about date rape or men forcing themselves on women.

But tbh the worst bit about removing it is the subsequent melodramatic whining by the "offended by the offended", like such:

It's much more unfortunate that we live in a society where people still unironically use the word "snowflake".

Ridiculous, nonetheless how is this considered a Christmas song?

'Baby it's Cold Outside' is the latest victim of the crazy age we live in, having been pulled by Christmas FM.

    What next?

You know i actually hate this song but because of the latest left madness i actually have the urge to do whatever is in my power to make it number one from now until all eternity

Fairytale of New York, hopefully. They should definitely remove the line after 'you scumbag, you maggot' that some people seem to enjoy putting extra effort into singing. Maybe bleep it really loudly or replace it with the Ronan Keating, Moya Brennan version.

Fairytale of New York is a classic, no way should it be changed just to suit the leftie PC losers.

ok. actually a bit rapey. but only cause its a theatrical performance.

Really, nobody was following anything but the tune up until these loons started their shyte.

was anyone actually imagining these semi-rapey shenanigans?

that video is 10 times more graphic than anything i'd pictured when the song was in my head.

The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl did a version of it for the BBC in the early '90s, where "cheap lousy faggot" was replaced with "you're cheap and you're haggard" (same as the iconic Ronan Keating version). I'm sure nobody would have an issue with that...

I presume they’ll be axing the film “Elf” because buddy sings it in the ladies bathroom along with Jovie, when she is showering and unaware he’s there. How is there no outcry about that?!?

I never joke about anything. The Ronan Keating/Moya Brennan version of Fairytale of New York is, along with Madonna's classic rendition of American Pie, one of the few cover versions that happens to be a million times better than the original.

Fairy tale of New York should be axed too. How dare Shane McGowan shout Kirsty McCall down in that duet!

To be fair, it uses the word ******, which is heavily frowned upon in recent years.

Poor Dudley, won't someone think about poor Dudley. Someone should tell him that its not actually about him, he shouldn't be so offended.

Bloody hell. Winter has indeed come. Snowflakes everywhere. The were an entertaining curio, for a while. Harmless, and it seemed just a passing fad of highly sensitive ninnies who just needed to grow up. Nay, man up.
But their influence is getting out of control. Something must be done.
I call on the governments of the world to collectively sort out the problem.
Was it on the agenda for the G20 this weekend? Well it shudda been.

This is a song that should be embraced by feminists as it is not about a woman being 'manipulated' by a man but rather it is about a woman trying to break free of social convention. She wants to stay & have some fun but is afraid of being judged by family & society.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,440 ✭✭✭The Rape of Lucretia

Yes, they keep ducking tackling the issue, backing of the pansey generation who throw a strop and are 'offended' anytime it is suggested they need to grow up. Govts need to face up to them, or they will take over the planet, and there wont be any real adults left.

    Partially quoted from other thread
The Official thinking here is that we'll be open to playing an updated version of this song if someone was to modernise it to not be a male asking a female to reconsider and make it more relevant / easier to explain to kids who listen. Thats not Pro-Feminism in my opinion, but we've loads of other amazing songs we can play and its just not worth the hassle or our focus.
In the original movie, the roles are switched halfway through the song. So it's not a male asking a female to reconsider..

The strange thing is, Baby it's cold outside is actually about women owning their sexuality, not 'date rape'. It's essentially sexual liberation, not supposed 'rape culture'.

The people trying to ban it are those who do the 'slut walks'. They don't get that it's very liberal, ahead of it's time in many respects.

Back in 1997ish, we won a big goodie bag from the old Vrigin Radio 1215mw.

It was the only station we could get in the tractors and the breakfast show was looking for "PC" lyrics to a Robbie Williams song as it would cause issues in the USA.

    Original words

"My breath smells like a thousand fags and when Im drunk I dance like my dad"

We phoned in with " My breath smells like a million smokes and when im drunk I dance like my folks".

Never checked to see if RW used it! We did get the goodie bag and a verbal warning for misuse of the work phone however!

Just reword it but not make it over PC.
