    I'm looking to get a .223, currently looking at two

    Remington 700vtr
    Savage axis

    Has anyone any experience with either of these?

    Had loads of the remingtons over the years and they were great, but i hear remmy have been in trouble for a while and quality isn't what it was, but i hear the savage is supposed to be excellent.

    Have had 2 Remington in my life one being a light barrel .223 the other .22 semi auto and to be honest there not a great rifle in my opinion.know nothing about savage so I won’t comment.
    If I were you I’d try put a few more quid together if you could and get a tikka or sako even 2nd hand way better rifles for accuracy and have nice triggers in them too.

    I had 2 Remington 700s in.223. The first was a light barrel 22" and it was awful. Couldn't get ammo that'd work in it at all. Second was a heavy barrel 26" ... and that was a really good rifle. Very accurate. In short, Remy 700s are hit and miss.

    No experience with the Savage. But if I was in the market for a .223 nowadays, I'd be getting a Tikka.

    I also had a Remington 700. I really liked it. From what I understand there is a huge variation in accuracy you can get out of a Remington. Some are excellent and others are poor.

    I then bought a tikka t3x lite. Very hard to beat this rifle with the 3 shot moa guarantee. Really nice smooth bolt. Most dealers have them for €1200 so it's hard to recommend anything else.

    I'm recommending the tikka rifles.

    I almost forgot to add. Tikka rifles have excellent triggers out of the box. The same cannot be said about Remington.

    The best of the Remington 700’s were the old vsf models they were very well put together with great accuracy to be got out of them and a nice stock the newer ones are very ropey and a lotto if it groups or not and a terrible trigger.
    Sako/tikka would get a vote of approval from me I own two both are scary accurate and have excellent triggers.

    I have the Cogswell and Harrison 17hmr thats just a cz455, I have seen a few places do the C&H in 223 , I don't know if its the same as the 17hmr and just rebranded, can't find any reviews on the C&H in 223,

    I'll give the 527 a look

    It would be well worth looking at Howa 1500 aswell.

    My buddy got one in 223 lately (Howa 1500 24" varmint) and i have to say im well impressed with it and thats coming from a proud Tikka owner :D

    I have a VSF in .223 it is a class bit of kit. I got a great deal on it as it had been in the gun dealers shop for forever and a day. I'd say no one wanted it because of the tan stock. But as they say no good dog is a bad colour. I stuck a Timney Calvin Elite into it and it's definitely more accurate than me.

    Remington are currently owned by the Freedom Group. Increased margins and sales are all that matters. They basically go around wrecking companies.

    First they came for the socialists...
