I like the French entry this year, they will do well.

Its actuall a good song by Ireland this year, but this isn't a music competition anymore, still I do enjoy the voting !

Getting quite excited now with things looking better for us. I liked the song from the off but didn't think it'd stand out enough on the night to qualify but Ryan did a great job and was delighted we got through. Had set my expectations at being thrilled if we don't come last but may see a top half finish now, don't want to tempt faith and hope for any more than that now.

If we had Ryan Moore instead of Ryan Oshaughnessy we'd win by a short head...

6th fav now...must be serious money being bet on the Irish entry...

Not sure why Lithuania are still so high in the betting. Their draw is bad, and it indicates that they weren't that popular in the semi. The producers always make sure the most popular songs get a decent draw.

Betting odds are ultimately driven by the market....

After the mention of them last night in the show, I went and bought some pastel de nata today for my party tomorrow. Holy mother of god they are amazing.

Ireland up to 6th favourite now! I think the market is overreacting a bit but heck I'll take it. So nice to consider Ireland in these kind of conversations after years of Louis Walsh inflicted misery. As to how we'll do, I now think we'll get comfortable top ten, anything beyond that is a bonus.

Is it a eurovision party? Why didn't you invite everyone from this thread

Oh of course, it had to NQ. But I can't help but really feel for her. As some of the comments on that Tweet say, she was basically used as a political pawn last year, and to now become Russia's first ever NQ after all that. Yeah, I feel for her.

Ah it's just ourselves and a few other Euronuts getting together to watch it. If people want to trek up to Belfast for it I might save a tart or 2. :D

Interesting that Irish odds are shortening substantially. Now 3rd fav with some @ 8/1 & 10/1 and even down to 12/1 on some exchanges which give the better indication.

edit - exchanges now at 8/1, some bookies at 6/1

Question now is Will it be in the Point or the RDS next year? :D

Obviously money is being placed by people. Momentum can build and work in your favour with the public vote as suddenly all the media attention is on you.

Possibly looking at being second fav by tomorrow.

I reckon if it comes in a bit more, I'll start to lay this on the exchanges. At the end of the day, gay vote or no, we surely won't pick up enough eastern bloc votes to win.

Best price with any (reputable) bookie would appear still to be @17. Exchanges have very high flucuation and small windows. Even then, the (J-4) price position is a shared price, with the likes of Germany & Lithu.

Another important factor is the big players haven't had any exposure as of yet, once France/Spain/Italy etc get some exposure, it will drift out all others televised from SF1/2.

The Chinese thing is spurring the current run, but still realisitcally would do very well to finish up at 5/6th.

That eastern bloc thing is long long long gone.

With 43 countries voting, any benefit of neighbouring votes such as UK/Ireland is extremely small.

Well we should be fine with the televote, it's Eastern European juries who'd vote us down. But if the song is good enough (which I don't truly believe Ryan's is) then we'd still be able to win. The EE juries didn't stop Austria winning.

Austria has plenty of neighbours of it's own to help them along.

Correction to previous note, you're right @8.5 stright average price.
    3rd place, and still shortening...

It's moreso the draw I think, it's the only slow song in the entire second half. And third from the end is a very good position to be in. The performance seems to connect with people. I do think Top 3 is overly optimistic but this is a really unpredictable year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,681 ✭✭✭Try_harder

Shocked its second fav. But stuff like this has gone well in the past.

The Eurovision fan club has picked the wrong song 4 years in a row

Top 3 with the bookies. 9th when I woke up this morning. Some turn of events.

This Eastern European thing is a myth.

    Last few winners have been:

    2017 Portugal
    2016 Ukraine
    2015 Sweden
    2014 Austria
    2013 Denmark
    2012 Sweden
    2011 Azerbaijan
    2010 Germany

So last 8 years have seen only 2 East European countries win.

It nearly always come down to the song and the performance.

Yeah, I was dismissing it originally when I heard, thinking it was just PP, but no, EVERY betting website has moved us into third position now.

I'd be much more optimistic...its a catchy tune..the hook /chorus happens very early and gets repeated often making it easy to remember. That's ignoring the staging which appears to have struck the right chord...pun intended..

What do you good people think of the UK entry?

Seems kinda bland to me, you'd think in a country of over 60 million that they would be able to come up with a good song.

It's just testing the links to the various studios, scoreboard, etc. There weren't any judges, the computer just randomly assigns the scores.

Part of me would think it would be something of a hollow victory if we won, the staging is definitely what got us through in the semi final, if it had just been Ryan on his own, we wouldn’t have gotten through.

Are the exact results of the semi finals available anywhere?

No, not until the final is over.
