Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I was looking at reddit and saw that the owners of Nextbit, a new company are doing an AMA regarding their phone that they will release in February.

    They have doubled their Kickstarter amount already (with 14 days to go) and it looks really nice to me.

    What I really like is that it comes with an unlocked bootloader, so you're free to load any ROM on it without voiding the warranty (although I can imagine they will limit it to the more well known ones like Cyanogen).


    The people involved all have a long history of working at Google, HTC,... so have relevant experience it seems.


    Plus, imo they just look gorgeous, especially the Midnight version:

    I wonder if you load another rom, do you lose the features that you buy this phone for i.e. the cloud integration?

    Also, none of this would be an issue if more phones had microSD card slots, and proper dev support for them. Hopefully that will come with Marshmallow update.

    Great questions abechung!
    Like other OEMs we do power tuning on drivers and hardware configurations. One big takeaway from my days on Android working on Power Management was that it was not enough to just focus on the device. You have to optimizing the full end-to-end system, which includes the device and servers. We're doing this at Nextbit, and designing our syncing solution from day one to be power efficient.
    We hear your concerns about battery life, and its an area we want to tackle in the future! :)
    I would expect benchmarks around early Jan.

    Guess we will see in january what the battery is like.

    They also said that while you can put whatever ROM you want on the device, the cloud service only works with the original ROM. Alternative launchers like Nova however will still work.

    3k units a dev community does not make. Even at 10k you'll only have a small community around the device, and TBH I'd be skeptical of good FW support from any smaller enterprise like this. Sure even OPO/CM had their issues.

    They're supposedly being backed by Foxconn for hardware, they have investment from Google Ventures,...
    I think support will be decent enough, but that remains to be seen of course.

    Where do you see 3000 units ?

    808 is old but top tier. Batt mediocre, storage fine. CAT4 LTE with full band support - No benefits of 4.1G but thats almost non existent here anyways.


    PSA: Doesnt have a steel frame. You sit on it, it cracks in half. A case is a decent idea.

    I'll pick up a case from eBay, but there's not much to choose from.
    The storage seems funky, doubt the cloud USP will be maintained for long, leaving a buyer with a pitiful 32Gb on board.
    But I use my handset less and less for more than calls, messages and browsing, so it should be fine.
    Hopefully there'll be a custom rom of Oreo in the coming months too.

    It's a nice mint green one, matching the phone itself.

    I see from one review that syncing with it was generating a lot of heat in the phone.

    I am looking at the Robin, and the 2 of the LeTV phones (Le Max 2 and Le 3 Pro) for a similar price.
    One video review mentioned that the screen was not great in the daytime, but after reading a fair bit more it seems that video reviewer was terrible. Everything he mentioned was either irrelevant or fixable, and he kept wanting to plug his discount for skins on other phones. :mad:
    There are some known issues with the Robin and many of the Roms seem to fix them and do a very good job of extending the battery life among other things. The OmniRom seemed to have been the best and most favourited among users earlier this year, but i do not know if that is still the case. There seems to be a few to choose from.


    Edited also to ask if it got stopped for VAT + Handling.

    I'm looking at that custom ROM based on 7.1 as well, hoping that there'll be an Oreo ROM in the not too distant future.
    I'm using that at the moment and it'll be hard to retreat to Nougat!
    I think the battery life is concerning me, pretty lightweight battery in it, but the camera was fixed in the updates and the launcher can be easily replaced, probably with Google Now, Pixel Launcher or Lawnchair.
    The usb c port means I won't have to change my charger for the car and office, which is great.

    Thought I would jump in here,

    I was part of the Nextbit 'Team', only way to put it really. As in I had weekly meetings with the team and CEO, community managers, software engineers etc, had the 'Product Expert' level in their eyes, helped them make the Nextbit OS stable, had early testing before the phone was out, tested unreleased software versions and helped before and throughout their kickstater project etc. Didn't know we had a boards forum for Robin though! I develop software for the Robin now though on XDA, AICP, if you feel like the Nextbit OS aint for you (the bootloader is unlockable after all!)

    As you most likely know Nextbit is disbanded and support for Robin has died, sadly. They are part of th Razer team now and just released the Razer phone.

    However, Robin is still a great device if you are on a budget. As another poster said, a Nexus 5X with an extra gig of ram and the camera aint too shabby either, along with both the front facing speakers with individual amps.

    Anyway if you have any questions regarding Robin etc I am sure I will be able to answer them for you, basically know the phone inside out at this point! :)

    I usually ignore Reddit for most stuff :D But i just wanted to see how close to Oreo they were. Found it on AICP.

    I wonder would it be possible to put Sailfish on it?

    I'm using a 6p for a year and like it a lot, my wife's 5x is great too, just a solid and dependable pair of workhorses.
    Hoping that the Robin will be the same, it certainly seems that way!
    Certainly nice to buy into something rather unique, in a world dominated by a handful of brands and many more which ape more successful designs.

    well if you are looking for Unique there is nothing else then Robin. Was made to be a unique device and the team made it. So much work went on behind the scenes on the design, hence the long delay in the Kickstarter shipping at the start (thats another story though) Camera will be worse then your 6P (expected) but it is nowhere near the worst! performance, dropping from an 810 to 808, but if your not a heavy user these things should be fine plus you have a Nexus 5x so can see what that is like.! Robins design just stands out so much. The one I received was a Mint one, and boy everywhere I go I get asked about 6 times 'what phone is that?!'. No more 'Oh which iPhone is that?' type of stuff.

    Its a shame the Robin won't get more updates, but at least the legacy lives on :) And there is alweys custom ROMs ;) hehe XDA ftw

    I missed that post earlier. Luckily saw it now. I was contemplating using Parcel Wizard.
    Apparently this phone was down to $60 earlier in the year. It must have been a flash sale.
    So i guess you will receive yours on Monday?

    Browsing around for fun i was looking at these skins and covers. They do look very nice. :) But i think for a case, something more rigid like the one Ciderman ordered is probably a better option.

    Doubt it. Address Pal requested documents Friday (replied within 10 mins, only early US Time) but no sign of it in their tracker. Probably like wednesday. CiDeRmAn will get his first.

    I had written more, but accidentally highlighted and deleted it when i added the URL. I have had to wait up to two weeks after an item landed in Dublin for it to be processed through Customs and have the tracking appear on the An Post site.
    But those items were all from China. I am hoping that it does not happen with this as it is from America. I ordered one last night,

    Just arrived this morning, I ordered it on the 6.11.17, so just over a week from order to delivery from the states.
    And no customs.
    Looking at the phone, it's lovely, but the colour is more striking than I expected, so I may pass it on to the better half as part of the Christmas pressie....
