Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You should be entering the number as your income tax number to register. If you're in receipt of rental income then you're liable for income tax.

That is of course assuming you've registered for income tax. If you haven't you need to download a form TR1 from revenue and register. Search for TR1 here...

    http://www.revenue.ie/revsearch/search.jsp

If you require any further help let me know!

Thanks but looking at this again.... could I not just fill out the FORM 12 which is for PAYE workers and there is an option for filling out section 13 - "Rental Income from Land and Property in the State"??? I'm confused as to whether I need form 11 or 12 now?

I'd always thought thta with rental income you'd be a chargeable person for self assessed income tax and therefore required to fill in a form 11 unless you're a non-proprietry director or an employee.

However having examined the form 12 it appears section 13 does allow for rental income. I'd personally recommend filing a form 11 but call your local revenue office to confirm if you can file a form 12, which would obviously reduce alot of the hassle as you wouldn't have to register!

Just rang the local revenue office and the nice lady told me that a form 12 is sufficient if the net income after deductions is less than €3,175! saves me a bit of hassle:)

Thanks for the help - boards.ie to the rescue again!!!

If you are willing to do a little work, you can get your tax done free using the government process in Australia
This website has some information on how to do it - its not that hard once you follow the steps
    http://taxrefundforfree.com.au/

A friend of mine is involved in a new startup doing tax returns from Ireland, UK and Oz. If you left Ireland and went to Australia for a year or so and come back - you can do two claims - one in Ireland and one in Oz. And you can go back 4 years in Ireland and longer in Australia - so even if this happened ages ago you can still claim. Their site is http://www.allmytax.com They have a similar pricing model - 10% of the refund.

Also if you rent in Ireland you can claim I think 500 a year back - and back claim for 4 years - so a handy 2 grand. Anyway, whoever you use - make sure and look at both the Irish and Australian side when claiming tax back.

I'm looking to claim a tax refund in Ireland for rent and doctors fees. Has anyone used www.allmytax.com ?

    Thanks

That's too simple to be paying a fee to someone for. I suggest either:

1.) Register for Revenue's online PAYE Anytime Service,

OR (if you aren't confident in using that),

2.) Walk into the public counter with your documents and ask them to sort you out.

Are you talking about the rent credit?

If so its a credit for 20% of the rent paid up to 2000 (for a single person under 55), so the maximum you can claim back is 400.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 smullo

You're right - it's 400 for a single person. 800 for married couples and it seems to be double this if you are over 55. But you can go back 4 years plus the current year - giving you 2,000. That's the info i got here

Are you not able to phone your local council office with your pps number to gain back your tax credit?

I have no time to go to Navan so having it sorted over the phone would be amazing

I applied for their services when they visited my college on a roadshow but when I realized what they do I wanted to cancel my app because I use paye anytime on the revenue website. Their rep tried to convince me that I needed it but explained to her that I had no tax left to claim so they would be "investigating" any spare change left. All went well but a friend of mine went ahead with it and got a phone call last week to say how much he was owed etc.

As I didn't get the call I thought that they canceled my app, but this morning I received a letter stating that an agent has been assigned to my account. I tried ringing them but that got me nowhere so I sent an email.

Sorry for the long post just wondering if there is anyone that this has happened to or if they have any tips on what to do.

    Thanks

Hi there. Sinead here from taxback.com. We always recommend that people check if they’re due a tax refund even if they’re applied in the past in case there is anything outstanding that they’re owed. It’s always better to be safe than sorry! Just a quick reminder also that the end of the 2010 tax year is approaching on 31st December in case you incurred any expenses during the year that you can claim tax relief on. We'll update your file so you're not contacted again. Happy Christmas!

ups, it seems that they have abolished tax releife for rent for new tenancies. but I`m going to recover my previous years rent releife.

I used taxback.com to get my tax refund from belgium and germany for 2007 and 2008. It took them over 2 years to process, with many mistakes and screw ups along the way. Then when they finally had the money they seemed to have great difficulty actually giving it to me. Finally a cheque was issued, for the wrong amount, and they demanded I return the money  Even more hilariously, I had not actually received the over-estimated cheque at all. The various departments in this company do not communicate with each other at all. I was just about to threaten them with legal action when I finally got the money (minus their exorbitant fees). In fairness, they weren't malicious, just very incompetent. Mails to them asking for an explanation from a manager were unreturned, and even today I get automated mails from them asking for recommendations

Would not recommend, if I had known how bad they were I would have just done it myself.

Hi there, I'm really sorry you to read that you were disappointed by our service. We pride ourselves on keeping people fully updated both through their personal Tax Tracker online accounts and through the customer service executive allocated to their case so I'm both surprised and disappointed that a manager did not respond to your emails with an explanation. We'd like to look into this further so if you could send an email to customerrelations@taxback.com, a manager can look into your case and see how we could've done things differently and if any errors were made. I'm glad to hear you got your refund in the end but would welcome the chance to discuss your case. Please send your contact details to the email address above and we'll be in touch. All the best, Sinead.

You ignored my mail to customerrelations@taxback.com already. I am not going to waste any more of my time on you, and hopefully this warning will let others know about the service they can expect.

I'm wondering if someone can recommend a Taxation Accountant for me. I'm self assessed and it is basically for filling out and filling the form 12 every year. I have details of my income kept and I have some medical expenses which I think I can use too.

This should be fairly straight forward for the right person who is up on tax credits and the form "11 E Pay and File Tax Return" . Could even be a student who knows his or her stuff. It's been a real headache for me the last couple of years.

I'll be able to provide more info if people want to PM me. I'm based in Dublin. I'll need a price and some references.

    Thanks

Just to be clear is it a form 11e or a form 12, you mention form 12 in the first para.

I assume you are carrying on a trade if you are self assessed?

The Wealth Shop - cannot recommend them enough!
Richard was a huge help to me last year (my first year as self assessed). Always on the ball and there to answer any questions I had/ have. Saved me a fortune!
They have a live chat on their website, you can go on and get a quote right there and then.

Lets be clear on this no accountant can save you a fortune. The legislation is the legislation. They can either do their job correctly and professionally and ensure everything is claimed or not. They dont actually save you anything.

    Well obviously.
I saved money compared to doing it myself (what with not knowing the ins and outs of accounting, tax law etc etc).
I thought that would be clear.

So having got my P60 I checked out the Red Oak site to see if I'm due a tax refund.
Before I send off my P60 to them though, has anyone else used them? Are they legit and has anyone got a refund from them?
    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,678 ✭✭✭nompere

If you're capable of setting up a boards.ie account you're going to be able to set up with PAYE Anytime and sort out your own refund.

I've no reason to believe that Red Oak are anything but reputable, and I've seen them post here. But as another poster said in this forum in the last few hours, why pay someone for what is really only a simple five minute job?

Hi people I am wondering has anyone any dealing with this crowd ?
I made a claim for tax back from this crowd a number of years ago and there was a fee of course. Now when I got my refund there were suposed to take there fee off this but they did not. When they contacted me about this I said no problem and I sent a postal order to them and that was that now they are contacting me looking for there payment saying the never got it. It was about four years ago so what law have i got or are these crowd trying there arm ??

  • hi there i recently got a quote from taxback.com and the fees they would take is almost DOUBLE what i was getting so i decided i will go to revenue myself and get the refund myself but i was wondering was anyone else nearly scammed by this as well?

Taxback.com is not a scam in that they tell you up front how much it will all cost and what their cut is. The only problem is that Revenue online has made it pretty easy to get your tax back so that someone like me who has no clue about tax, still got sorted with little in the way of hassle using ros.ie.

they are not going to go out of their way to tell you what you are entitled to. its up to you to claim what you are entitled to.

  • it seems fair dodge to me

What is it that you find dodgy about it? Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of Taxback (or their competitors) as I think it's very easy for the vast majority of simple PAYE only taxpayers out there to DIY it on PAYE anytime.

Butif they told you up front that their fee would be more than your refund then I kinda fail to see what your beef is... Or am I missing something?

    Hi

TBH if you speak the lanaguage I would always try to get the tax refund myself just using free citzens advice bureaux, the web etc and forums like here.
Taxback.com & their like only come into play when you don't speak the language. They are very efficent and have the process automated and huge call/processing centre in Bulgaria where they pay people for minimal money (in our eyes but then in Bulgaria you get a cup of coffee for €0.20, so the wages seem great in Bulgaria) to do data input for them.

Not sure if this has been done before.. apologies if it has. I had a phone call off this company tonight demanding I pay then £120 in processing fees.

I used them over 4 years ago to claim back about £500 in tax from working in Australia .. they took a sizeable cut at the time and sent me a cheque for the rest. First time I have heard from them in 4 years. Not sure If I still have the documentation. I did have it stored but think I recently destroyed it will need to check.

Anyway has anyone ever experienced this? How did it work out ?

    Cheers for any help :)

Believe me Lads, unless you are self employed and with claims for reliefs and deductions that are way out of the ordinary, you do not need third party agents claiming tax refunds or making claims for you.
what I mean is simply put if you are or were a PAYE worker with the usual claim for rent credit of health expenses or trying to get your emergency tax back or perhaps have now returned home having worked in ireland for years and want to see if you are due tax back, you can do this yourself.
Revenue are only to happy to help and can be contacted by phone or email.
Dont pay someone hard earned money for something you could have done with a couple of emails !

Discussion of taxback and other similar entities can be found here:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=62423432

Personally if you are just an ordinary PAYE taxpayer without anything unusual going on, then I see no reason why you should pay anyone else to claim your tax credits for you - just register for the PAYE anytime service..

I like taxback as they organises tax refunds for non-residents who work in the US. They specialise in IRS tax refunds for J1 Exchange, F1 Student, H Visa, P Visa, O Visa, L Visa and E visa holders. Also they have more than 13 years experience in international tax refunds and our 600 staff file more than 130,000 tax returns every year.

Write an email to Revenue asking them to remove taxback.com as your agent. Also ensure that you update your bank details online as they are probably set to taxback.cons details.

Best to wait unless you are sure you can read your final payslip for 2011 correctly. Also just making sure you are making the medical claim online rather than physically sending a med 1 form.
