Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

CAF Rolling stock

We all remember the ride quality of the CAF stock when they arrived in Ireland 13 years ago. To this day, it isn't great. Irish wise the blame was put on our track quality. CAF even maintained an office in Heuston for a few years after introduction to try sort it out.

While I'm not as up to speed these days, a recent conversation with a colleague, brought back memories. She traveled on the new CAF built Caledonian Sleeper stock. Her reaction was, looks good, new, modern, but the noise and ride quality is far inferior to the former MK3 sleeper stock. I'd trust her judgement as she is a regular user of the service for many years. She said that the train is now far more up to date in terms of the seating/dining coaches, but trying to sleep on it is way more difficult.

Do CAF just make crap stock? I'm open to being enlightened.

For DMUs they seem ok, look the 29k and NIR C3K and C4Ks. THey are very good at what they were built for, very reliable anyway.

Yes the Mk4s have problems, still do today even after all the mod work. Time will tell how UK Mk5 and 5A stock pans out. The design of the Mk5 bogies is very different to anything else here and the UK, looks very American with the open profile wheel faces.

But yes for comfort the Mk3 even today is still the benchmark in Ireland and the UK.
