Her sense of entitlement regarding all Ireland final tickets, no thought for fans who go to league matches and club matches etc.

And the sheer waste of printing and not using 82,000 leaflets. What a useless burden on the state.

I'm only half following the news... I think she's just reacting to the deletrious effects of Leo's massive illegal drug use.

Is Aspergers the term more than Autism?

The term "Aspergers" is gone technically (under DSM 5) but re incorporated into Autism Spectrum Disorder as many people may have one or more conditions going on. I am not saying I agree with this umbrella term and most people retain their Autism diagnosis. The problem is when one description covers all. So employers cannot differentiate between former Aspergers and something like Prader Willi's syndrome (massive difference and nothing remotely alike) because one term covers everything.

Being an Apehole and having Aspergers are two different things. Aspergers can have psychotherapy to cope with an NT world. Apeholes like Leo need a kick where the sun dont shine.

She put her foot in it with the autism remark but when contacted by the Irish times and she tried to repair the damage, which brain cell in her head decided that using the N word on the record was a good idea ? People in general need to engage their brains before they talk in this country.

I think the fact she denied saying it....then couldn't as it was recorded is almost as damning

My concern would be there's a parliamentarian walking the earth that appears to be less intelligent than Donald Trump. What sort of special breed of stupid does one have to be to counter the accusation of using an offensive remark by giving an example of a more offensive remark, in the presence of journalists no less??

Think it's a bit of a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
Lack of empathy for Irish voters, less well off financially, older voters, and hatred of the working class, maybe more so?

To be fair to Leo, his hatred is of scroungers not the working class. A distinction that is very sadly not made enough.

    That wan is a wagon

She ran in Dublin West as Varadkars running mate and did badly. She pushed to get that nomination by playing the 30% female quota card, it helped

After a few hours of counting it was clear she would be eliminated early but she didn’t thank her team or the 1,100 voters who supported her

She put in Twitter that Dublin West was for socialists and she never had a chance.

    On yer way so

Also known for joining with Michelle Mulherin and moaning in the media that they couldn’t get Croke Park tickets for their beloved Mayo that they watch maybe once a year

My response was to the below
Leo will be delighted with this. First ethnicity, then sexuality and now he can add autism to his portfolio. Truly a Taoiseach for 21st century Ireland!
i.e. Nothing whatsoever was in that post which I responded to, to do with his performance in job.

She's in my constituency and i have a son with severe autism, she won't be getting my vote anyway, not because of what she said, I don't have much of a problem with that, but because she was at the door the other night and could barely string a sentence together, hadn't a clue what to say when questioned on disability services and assessment waiting times, she's only in there to try ride on the coat tails of Richard Bruton who would be quite popular in the area.

    Should she step down?

No. Leo should. He forgave her even though she originally denied saying it & only apologised when The Times produced a recording of her making the comment.

Leo is too soft. He thought taking Maria Bailey of some committees was punishment enough for putting in a bogus claim

Autism has quite a wide range from severe to high function. They scale it from 1 to 5 at diagnosis.

I know someone that has met Leo and interviewed him and he was what was described to me as socially awkward.

My son has Autism, I'm not offended by her remarks, others may be, and I accept that, but there are some incredible people with Autism, and personally i dont think she meant it as any form of slur, rather, that he is perhaps.more socially awkward and has to work harder at it

No he doesn't hate the working class. Hatred would show a higher degree of engagement. They just don't count for him.

"We" are not all on the spectrum.

It's called a spectrum because of the range of issues varies from one person with autism to another. e.g. some are non-verbal, some aren't, some are hypersensitive to noise some are not, some are hypersensitive to light some are not.....

Depends where your starting and end points on the "spectrum" are, doesn't it?

Spectrum: ..."entire range of anything, arranged by degree, quality, etc"
    O.E.D.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,122 ✭✭✭BeerWolf

The spectrum has been so broadened to the point everyone has some form of autism seemingly...

    Want to be alone? Autistic
    Too sociable? Autistic
    Whatever? AUTISTIC!!

Spectrum: ..."entire range of anything, arranged by degree, quality, etc"
    O.E.D.

If you want to be pedantic then "spectrum" is also an 8 bit computer from the 1980s

However in the context of autism it has the following meaning.

A spectrum disorder is a mental disorder that includes a range of linked conditions, sometimes also extending to include singular symptoms and traits. The different elements of a spectrum either have a similar appearance or are thought to be caused by the same underlying mechanism. In either case, a spectrum approach is taken because there appears to be "not a unitary disorder but rather a syndrome composed of subgroups". The spectrum may represent a range of severity, comprising relatively "severe" mental disorders through to relatively "mild and nonclinical deficits".

In basic terms there are a variety of traits that may or may not be present to various degrees, if you have autism.

There are established guidelines used to provide a diagnosis of ASD.
Having some similar traits does not put you on the "spectrum" of autism.

She is being ripped a new one over on Twitter, looks like her career as a politican has crashed and burned in about 24 hours!

She has about as much hope of winning the lotto as getting elected now and I doubt there will be a nice cushy seat in the Senate waiting for her this time round.

Doesn't look like she would be much good as a solicitor either if she decided to go back to her old job seeing as she seems to be as thick as 2 short planks.

Maybe it's because my daughter only received her diagnosis of ASD earlier this month, after over a two year wait for assessment and all the stress that goes with it, but her comments really upset me today.
Fingers crossed that this wan will disappear up her own hole after failing to be elected again come February 8th.

Leo is not autistic though he does display the traits of one being uncomfortable and unable to show real empathy.

I think he is more of a sociopath, hes living in a racist country as a mixed race man and also a homosexual man in a catholic country. So in general he is uncomfortable being the leader in a country that has many prejudices and he is a lot of them.

The guy is leading us but cant stand us really, a professional politician doing his time here to eventually reap the benefits in Europe where he can live it up with a huge pension from us !

While there's undoubtedly racist people in this country, spending time in other European countries will highlight we're not too bad in that regard.
As a whole I certainly wouldn't define Ireland as 'racist'.

Also this was the first country to vote in favour of gay marriage. Yes others had enacted it well before Ireland through legislation, but it required a referendum here, and received a large majority from the electorate in favour of enabling it.
There is also a large decline of those reporting as Catholic at every census.
Catholicism is still very much the main religion in a country, but in truth it's no longer a Catholic country, and if anything the fact an openly gay man is Taoiseach of the country is evidence of that in itself.

It's more likely that he is a psychopath (not that I am saying he is or isn't)

"Research conducted by the University of Oxford psychologist Kevin Dutton found ten professions with an unusually high proportion of psychopaths: chief executive officers, lawyers, television and radio news anchors and analysts, salespersons, surgeons, journalists, police officers, clergy, chefs, civil servants.

While “politician” is not on that list, elected politicians often emerge from some of the professions listed, such as lawyer, CEO, and civil servant."
